Quoting: Liam DaweThis is what i get for skim reading with one eye whilst juggling a hot flask of tea.Quoting: LoftySmall niggle but the steam client used to show the physical URL including the appid on the old UI. Since they removed it, i have to go to the website and then find the game. You used to be able to look up the appid instantly in the actual client. The article mentions how to re-enable showing the URL in the Steam client.

I like the idea of this project but once again as with the 'linux laptops' where are the AMD options ?
Im not very interested in anything currently Intel. (im not referring to the news articles btw so i appreciate the content).AMD have been knocking it out of the park with their mobile offerings this generation. This intel stronghold on 'boutique' mobile offerings might be some sort of Stockholm syndrome for businesses contracts or a Perhaps it's just a case of supply chain issues but for the informed consumer, especially Linux users AMD appears to be more exciting.
BTW i would like a laptop without a camera or microphone built in (hows about a truly modular laptop having the option to remove the modules). Both are usually of crappy quality and not something i tend to use ever. If i were to use one it would not be on an ad-hoc basis and more likely require a higher quality solution. In which case i could buy a clip on logitech model of much higher quality with in built mic and/or use a separate desktop microphone+camera

It's mentioned in the OP.
you can use this too..

type residentevil:

much quicker and less data to load vs the steam page.
hope this helps

Perhaps people will end up uploading these builds to sites that are less visible. Perhaps such aggressive unthinking corporate ban hammers will only drive people underground to less censored, less controllable platforms.
Perhaps.
Perhaps.

It's even sadder when you remember the game was created on Linux by Linux devs.
edit* even the wiki page doesn't mention this.

Quoting: slaapliedjeThis game does bring up an interesting problem. One of the mods we'd installed had some comments about it not working on Linux, and the author of the mod wasn't even aware that the game is available for Linux, and I wonder how common that is.Very common, none of my windows using steam friends knew that it was available on Linux and some even thought that Linux was for university labs only.. yes in 2021 with all the power and information of the internet.

Quoting: The_AquabatThank you for a respectable answer :smile:Quoting: LoftyBut wait, you need this 'exacting' 41+ char number string and sometimes we will even add a 'dash' then a point and a few numbers on the end (oh and also need the right kernal btw.)I seldomly use git versions, but I think that means that at that commit, (a commit is a code upload, meaning that someone sent code with that hash)...at that commit, the driver looks fine.
this is useful info, for people using the development tree of the driver to switch to that point in time where that commit was uploaded and to have a semi decent experience out of the driver.
As the usual caveat say, "don't try git versions be warned it may eat your hamster" :P , (that's why I say "semi decent" your millage may vary sometimes git versions run games better than the stable ones)

just a nit pick here but:
But wait, you need this 'exacting' 41+ char number string and sometimes we will even add a 'dash' then a point and a few numbers on the end (oh and also need the right kernal btw.)
Asking as an nvidia user who simply looks at a version shrugs and goes yup that's driver 460.74 and gets on with their day.
Im going to get schooled shortly on posting this

(requires AMD GPU with latest mesa-git drivers (known good mesa-git commit: `899dd8e60a5228c4506400d621ef6b5abfe5e32c`)).It's probably based on a logical hash of some sort and not a random number. But is it expected for users to stare at such a long and exact number strings for mesa versions ? like could it not be simplified, or is this heresy to even suggest for mesa/AMD users. Isn't there already enough technical babble for new users on Linux using AMD with MESA,AMDGPU,PPA's.

Piepacker is a new online multiplayer platform for retro gaming

Steam remote play is a no go for me unless they change how it works, seen as it seemed to to trip up with my (very basic) firewall on both pc and router. Not to mention steam link that now requires the internet to stream locally on your LAN, so that's useless to me also. It would be nice if they opensourced the client and removed the effective DRM.
Retroarch is an amazing application but i find myself not using it as configuration is endless, especially when you trash your distro and find yourself going back to the drawing board (🤭). Retroarch is best on a dedicated machine like a RPi, setup&forget so it's always just pick up and play.. or just buy one of the dozens of those things that are already setup.
(Now, if we could only get reliable cloud streaming of those pesky AAA DRM infested shooters i can't play on Linux via steam, id have all my gaming needs covered

Quoting: RafiLinuxParsec was good but no way to host on Linux. Steam Remote Play is OK but does not work all the time the last time I tried. Hamachi was been more and more difficult to get new ppl get on with. RetroArch's MP is also OK but does not work all the time. I also tried Antstream but did not have the library of games that I own and played all the time when my ppl and I were able to get together.Pretty much the exact same here.

Quoting: Liam DaweMore and more of this will come, and in some ways it's probably the eventual future (like it or not). Piepacker are jumping into this now with their ideaSo, im not too hyped about cloud streaming for a variety of vaild reasons, but for retro gaming i think it's a neat idea. Not only for the remote multiplayer but for having a platform for saves, achievements and everything ready to go at the touch of a button. And this should actually work for me unlike steam.
