Look at everything else nvidia does pretty much everything is proprietary gsync, drivers, tools, etc It's part of their strategy to not share anything allow nothing to benefit anyone else than nvidia. And lock customers into their ecosystem.

That said, I saw this coming when OSX depots showed up on steamdb but no Linux ones followed. Still leaves me disappointed, bitter and wishing that companies were more transparent instead of no news for months and then bombshells.

Was just confirmed for mac :/ on facebook. No mention of linux.

The default gui framework is swing, i'm not entirely sure what minecraft uses though.
