Steam Play arrived on Linux one year ago, some thoughts
23 Aug 2019 at 4:10 pm UTC

Quoting: hagabakaThat makes sense, but it's hard to measure Steam Play's effect on either of these possible trends: Linux gaining more users, and decline of native Linux support. Many of us have seen that some game developers who have released several Linux native titles in the past are not (or not definitely) doing it for their next project. We don't know how much that has to do with Steam Play or other reasons. Likewise, we don't know how many users and gamers are actually moving to Linux due to Steam Play, even though it is definitely helping existing Linux gamers.
Well, we do see a decline in native port (percentage) and don't see a rise in Linux gamers (percentage), right?

Supergiant Games is turning ten years old, big sale on their games and HADES is heading to Steam

Quoting: Liam DaweWhat's there to understand? Game development, especially for smaller teams is incredibly hard with thousands of games releasing all the time. I don't blame a single developer for taking exclusive deals, it allows them secure funding to continue making great games. It sucks for us when it's Epic, since the only way to then run it is Wine which gives us a subpar experience.

Having some funding means nothing against a game being finished or not.
Have Epic store customers been informed that they've been offered an unfinished product?

Quoting: CaenthThey have been on Epic store for ~9 months now and after their exclusivity deal wears off they going to release with Early Access on Steam? What the hell is wrong with game development nowadays?! A lot, I tell you. I like my indie developers as much as you do, and I fully realize they need to earn their keep, but this smells. There is something called integrity and I don't see it here.
I don't get the issue? It's no different than any other game entering Early Access.

The whole idea of Early Access has been warped due to many games entering practically done. Early Access was originally meant for games actually in development.

Taking an exclusive deal doesn't suddenly make game development different.
So, Epic exclusively had an alpha version?

(Didn't read through all messages yet...)

Since it gets emailed in often: I’m currently waiting to hear back from Valve about answering a few questions. They have the questions, just waiting on answers. Unsure if it will happen or not, so fingers crossed on that one.
Does this include questions about other compatibility tools?
I'd love to have AGS as an easy to use tool to play adventures not ported to Linux...!

Attack of the Clones with custom Proton builds for Steam Play

Quoting: orochi_kyoBut if you still think Gabe is taking the money to buy an island in the Caribbean, maybe we can suggest Valve to fire Pierre Lois Griffais and everyone who is working on Linux stuff, to give a better cut to those "poor" devs.
While i appreciate Valve's efforts, Gabe Newell, estimated for 3.5 billion dollars, sure could buy one or another island, while there are quite some development studios closing down or having to sell themselves to large companies (like Microsoft).

Quoting: scaineThat and I think I was bit fatigued by having just finished the awesome Shadowrun Returns, and subsequently the equally awesome Shadowrun Dragonfall.
You did play Hong Kong as well?

Quoting: toorThis game has one of the worst rating I have ever seen. Everybody spit on it, critics, players.
Its launch problems crippled its rating, bit it's had nothing positive reviews since hotfix 3 came out. I'm looking forward to trying it.
43% positive overall,
66% lately.
It seems it at least got less bad.

Google reveal more games with the latest Stadia Connect, including Cyberpunk 2077

I came here to say that they won't release the games to Linux, but...

Stadia Base requires you to buy all your games as normal
... this does sound like they might have to.
Do we know if we can buy them from Google (so there's no need for a public release)?
