Quoting: ScooptaI don't play any 32-bit games so steam is the only reason I even need it enabled on my distro.Do you check this before buying a game? How?

Quoting: riddleyAs a long-time Debian user, I have no dog in this fight, but man these comments are odd. First, Debian isn't difficult to install.Being in the same boat, I wanted to compare Debian installation to Windows 10's lately. To my surprise, Debian has like 30 screens with questions during installation. It's too much.
Quoting: riddleyWhy is no one in these comments finding fault with Valve? Don't get me wrong, I'm very glad and grateful that they support Linux, but at the same time they don't do a very good job of it.How is Valve guilty of many games using 32 bits? I don't know what they could do about it...
Quoting: riddleyPerhaps Steam is easy to install on Ubuntu, I'll never know. On Debain it's an exercise in frustration every time. This I found not hard (for an average Debian user, that is):

I'd bet Ubuntu will backpaddle. Wonder what Valve would do then, though.

I can't compare to other distributions, but IMHO having Debian stable with new-enough drivers ain't hard.

Quoting: TermyBut i highly doubt the alternative will be Debian, much to conservative with new versions. And packing a PPA with recent Kernels and Mesa for Debian seems kind of the wrong way.Debian already does, it's called backports repository.

Quoting: ixnariArch is out of the question. Fedora's better, but I feel it's still a bit too advanced for beginners. Maybe Debian or something Debian-based like MX Linux?Good question. I like my Debian, but wouldn't recommend it to beginners.

Quoting: no_information_hereEdit: Just checking and it looks like most of those work fine. Hmm. Does anyone have any comments on the KDE Debian spin?Running Debian with KDE for, dunno, two decades? Sure worth a try.

Quoting: slaapliedjewith the debian-multimedia repo,Is there still such a thing? I remember big problems with the "usual" Debian multimedia site, and living fine without it since then.

Quoting: VodkaChickenIs there a Debian (stable) repo for more recent kernels and nvidia drivers or would I have to install that sort of stuff manually? Maybe it's finally time to give in to the Arch menace. At the moment, you should install the upcoming stable (buster), which will officially release in some weeks. I'm living fine with Debian stable plus backports repo. Others prefer Debian testing, which is rolling.

Quoting: GuestThe only thing that was revolutionary was the ability to turn my head and it would rotate the camera, that's it.Display-wise, that is the point. After staring at a game on a monitor for decades, it felt like stepping into the game for me - because I could look around inside.
