Do we want a Linux version, full of issues both in terms of bugs and major gameplay mechanics having problems?
Yes. Parity is what I want.
We're entitled to the same bugs as the Windows version...!

;o)

Which implies that usage of Proton means using Steam, which is not correct. While Proton is targeted for Steam, it can be used without it.
It's not too hard to find out what he actually meant, or is it?
I mean "bought and played through Proton" does rule out potential missunderstandings...

I wonder (read: doubt) if the game will be worth buying in the end...

Quoting: EikeUsers playing through Steam Play experiencing Linux-specific issues should be directed to Steam for support.
It's support for "Proton", not the game. If there's an update for the game that breaks things, basically Valve can say that they don't officially support the game (although will probably investigate if there's an issue with "Proton" that they can resolve), and the game dev can turn around and say they don't support GNU/Linux (and by extension, wine).
The quote say the opposite, IMHO. If there's an update for the game that breaks things, and you're a user "playing through Steam Play experiencing Linux-specific issues", you "should be directed to Steam for support." Isn't that... clear?

Quoting: GuestPedantic perhaps, but very important: the last point isnt true. Valve don't support games directly, they support "Proton". They were quite clear about that early on; problems with the game are not the responsibility of Valve. That Valve does give a whitelist of games that are known to run is a different matter again, and is not official support for the game in any way.
I don't find this pedantic. But it does seeem to me Valve is offering support for the whitelisted games (emphasis mine):

Q: I'm a developer; my game got whitelisted in Steam Play; does this mean I have to support an additional platform?

No; if a game was whitelisted as a result of our testing, we've assessed the experience to be identical (save for an expected moderate performance impact). Users playing through Steam Play experiencing Linux-specific issues should be directed to Steam for support. Keep in mind users were most likely already playing your game using Wine; you just have better visibility into it now.

Quoting: liamdaweThe old survey wasn't run by me at all, was a community thing. I can certainly look into a feature of having something unique in certain months and publish some of the most interesting answers (anonymously).
Oh, but you did announce it regularly, right?

I was thinking along the lines...

What's your main reason to use Proton?
[ ] I'm not.
[ ] Easy of use over WINE
[ ] Making my purchases count as Linux sells
[ ] Official support by Valve for the few Proton games I'm playing

Or in my case, want to make sure that purchases are seen as Linux purchases. The click-and-play experience is "just" the second best reason for me to prefer SteamPlay over wine. ;)
... or getting official support for some of the games.

I'd be interested to know people's reasons for using Proton.
Liam, there used to be special questions i a single survey once upon a time...?
