Quoting: liamdaweI still won't advocate for developers ignoring actual Linux support in favour of using Proton. There's so many reasons why that's a bad idea I don't know where to start.
Give it a write-up (to link to) some day...

Quoting: EikeBut where is Valve showing these changes...?
In their internal repositories, details of which are accessible through APIs they provide. Websites can use these APIs to build third-party services based on Steam data, this is what SteamDB does.
Yes, I know, I was wondering where/if/why not they are showing the list themselves somewhere. Guess it's the beta status...

Quoting: wintermuteYou have it backwards - SteamDB is merely reporting changes made in Steam/Valve repositories, it is not a repository in itself. In other words, SteamDb is showing the changes they made to "their own list proper", just in a more convenient format for the general public.
But where is Valve showing these changes...?

Quoting: DuncI thoroughly enjoyed it, much to my surprise. The only disappointment was that there isn't more of it.
You did see "Orwell: Ignorance is Strength"?

Quoting: g000hI'm a long term Debian user, and I use it properly... i.e. I install the packages from the regular repositories so that my system doesn't get messed up. I have tried backports and all sorts of things in the past, but generally find that forcing a later graphics driver onto the system ends up borking it.

Any suggestions about installing Nvidia graphics drivers onto Debian which don't mess it up?
Well, backports (and even experimental from time to time) works well for me...

Linux market share on Steam now at a 16 month high after a rounding error was fixed

Quoting: Cyba.CowboyThe "survey" file (which indicates the date the survey was last supposedly run) seems to think that three of the different computers running various versions of Ubuntu in our house and used by different people have all had the survey in the last twelve months, when in reality, none of us have... That would be Valve Software claiming to query me, when it has not in fact done so.
I don't know anything about a Steam survey file... What does it say; where do I find it? I guess it's undocumented (IMHO the biggest problem about the Steam survey)?

Quoting: Cyba.CowboyI beg to differ, because the voting polls often vary wildly from company to company (that conducts the polls)(in Australia at least)... They are a rough guide at best - but they also do not claim that I have participated when I have not.
Do you have data about these wildly differing results? These are for the next state elections here (Bavaria)...

I don't understand your last phrase... Did anybody claim Steam polls are querying every user?!?

and they are going with steamdb list instead?
SteamDB just displays a change Valve has been doing to their whitelist.

Quoting: Sir_DiealotSo that's a whooping 41 titles now, 1/3 of which is Sam & Max. How many of those don't run in stock WINE? How many of those are platinum or Gold on https://appdb.winehq.org/ [External Link] anyway?
I don't think this is the question. Proton is not doing wonders that WINE isn't (with Valve's help lately, to be fair). Proton is just doing the wonder at a (user's) finger tip and with customer care.

Quoting: SalvatosIs there a reason Linux users would be more likely than Windows users to use Steam in English rather than their own language?
I don't know why people are not regularly using their language in the first place, so... yeah, I don't know.
