Quoting: EikeThey pay, then port, then sell.
They pay? That's the reverse of what I'd expect. But I guess it's up to how they agree to share the profit.
It waa the same for me when I read it first. AFAIK, afterwards the whole money goes to Feral. But this way, they get the whole risk as well...

Quoting: ShmerlYou mean right to distribute (in their store)? Either way, my point was, they are paid by those who own the game in some form, either as percentage of sales, or some fixed amount.
But they aren't. They pay, then port, then sell. Not only at their store, all Linux Steam (and other) sales are theirs as well (minus the store's sharr). That's why it's even more important to get the sales numbers for the right system - it's what directly pays their dinner.

Quoting: ZodiacMentorAs for what this is, I'm pretty sure it's Shadow Warrior (1 or 2),
Erm, isn't the first one already ported and has been part of some Humble Bundle?

Quoting: ShmerlWhy would that matter? They are paid by the company which owns the game. That company decides.
No. They are paying for the code and the right to port and publish.

Quoting: SkarjakComplaining about fragmentation is completely ridiculous. The whole point of free software is that people are given the freedom to make their own versions and share them.
I once read (might have been on GoL) that it would be a good idea to have a non-fragmented base (like Kernel, base tools, X, Wayland, ...), but a wide variety of user applications.

Quoting: Alm888So, wired transfers are something from the past.
I wonder if we talk about the same thing, then. Bank transfer ("Überweisung" in German) can be made from any computer, there are very safe methods to do so, and as far as I know I'm able to transfer money to any account. I get as many transfers (at least national ones) as I want for a very low monthly fee. Wouldn't know why something like this could be outdated.

Quoting: AlveKattShadow Warrior 2 seemed to be a bit of a let-down though, so personally hoping it will be something else.
Some authors of my favorite game magazine consider it better than the modern DOOM.

Quoting: liamdaweWell, I actually made a decision earlier about doing a new site for general Linux news. Will do a proper announcement on it later.

I totally understand some people have reservations about me doing it, but I will explain more when it's time to.
:-( As I said, there is enough redundancy already..... GoL was unique in terms of size, structure and community (there is also boilingsteam).

General news, oh, there are so many already.... Too bad Liam.
You asked the question, almost all answers were negative or neutral and you decided to go for it. I remember that going against your comminuty is seldom a great idea !
He said "new site", so GoL should remain what it was.

That's ok for me (I guess for everybody) as well (if it doesn't reduce GoL time too much).
As long as my game reading experience is not littered here... ;)
