Quoting: EikeI'll continue to feed it with Bethesda, Bethesda and... hm, I'll think about the third.
Let me guess.... Bethesda? ;)
Need to think a bit more about it. But yes, Fallout and Elder Scrolls is what I'm missing by far the most after dumping Windows.

Wasteland 3 now on Fig ready to be funded, nearly hit the goal already

Quoting: killyouThat's the point. The campaign usually says: we are dumping publishing company and we need X amount of money to do this cool game
I read that as "Additionally to the money we've lent from the bank/mums we hopefully can pay back if we sell lots of copies after we finished the game, we need some more money to actually create it."

If you create a game like Wasteland 2 or Wasteland 3, you know you will sell copies. It would be... surprising business behaviour not to take account of that from the strat. I guess everybody would he happy if they could do without, but world usually is not like that.

Quoting: killyouI work in IT so I know that big projects might be tricky if it comes to time and resource management
(Me too.) Then I wonder even more what we are talking about.
I'll say it again: We don't know if...
* the financial planning included expected sells,
* the financial planning could be adhered to,
* more money was spent to make a better game due to more money flowing in.
I totally expect that the first is true and, as you said, it would be no wonder at all if the second would be true as well. I got no information if the third was done for Wasteland 2, but I did hear it for some kickstarter projects. But every single point could refute your conclusion on its own.

Quoting: edddeduckferalIt's 100% real not just a social media fun thing, it's not the only way we decide to license games of course but popular requests are taken on board when we look at what games to license for Linux (and Mac).
That's very cool! I wonder if many people think (like me) it's just a fun thing. But either way you're getting your input. So I'll continue to feed it with Bethesda, Bethesda and... hm, I'll think about the third.

Quoting: killyouThey crowdfounded all of their latest titles. They should be able to finish Torment as it was crowdfounded and it raised more than they were asking. They got more than they were asking for Wasteland 2 as well. So these games cost them nothing and were safe bets.
Sorry, what you are saying is totally unrealistic. Doing business - and even more so creating software - very often exceeds the planned funds. Furthermore they might go for content more if they have more funds than expected. And the planning might (and should!) involve the money you expect from sells in the first place. It's not like funding covers all expenses and sells make you rich. If you think it would be that way, please start developing great games (don't forget to support Linux!) and become rich that way. Good luck.

Tomb Raider for Linux is currently super cheap on the Feral store

Quoting: GuppyApparently I already bought this game on steam, wonder if I will ever get over the whole "OMG they ported a game to Linux *buy*"..
It's on my stack as well. I thought I need to buy Mad Max on day one, but didn't yet touch Lara... X)

Quoting: Comandante ÑoñardoIf that is the case, yes, they deserve money for job...and We deserve a refund if they did a bad job.
Like Edwin said, Feral are the publisher for all of their games. That alone should have told you it was not Feral being paid off, likely the other way around. Which is another reason I have a lot of respect for what Feral do. They seem to be the ones actively going to these publishers and developers for the ports (a lot of these ports are games people have highly requested too, like this one!).
So the requestinator might be (at least a little bit) more than just some social media fun...?

Editor note: Fixed quote from the wrong person.

If that is the case, yes, they deserve money for job..
That's how all Feral games work.
So you're solely paid by game copy sells and don't get money from the studio/original publisher?

Shadow Warrior 2 may not come to Linux after all, it's getting a bit confusing

Quoting: webcreatureHi,
I found this news on gamestar.de today. Its from yesterday evening.

"Linux and Mac versions are upcoming. No support at launch."

Sounded good on first sight, but it seems to be a copy of this old list:

Shadow Warrior 2 may not come to Linux after all, it's getting a bit confusing

Quoting: oddHa, ha... It was me who asked the question on Twitch...
Cool - thanks!

Quoting: oddBut my gut-feeling tells me, that we will see a Linux port in the future. It seemed that Pawel even wasn't aware of the existing port of the first game. He also said something strange: "First on PC, Steam and Gog..." ... PC, Steam and Gog?!
I thought about writing it down as well for the article, but as it's not directly related to Linux, I didn't. I would have written it as "First in PC (Steam and GoG), then...". Sounds like a suitable answer to me, as people often want to know if it comes on GoG as well.

The answer "Linux version - no, I don't think so.", if listened to, sounded quite firm to me. But I'm still not sure if he had got a clue about everything he answered. :) What's more disturbing to me is the Linux version vanishing from the stores.
