Quoting: elmapulanyway, where is the GPU data on the survey? to be more specific the model used on steamdeck...
As expected, a drop as well:
AMD AMD Custom GPU 0405 0.18% -0.09%
It's not like the Chinese would install Windows 10 on their masses of new Steam Decks...

File transfer ist okish for me at the moment - device discovery is not even that. More like hit and miss. And it's still a favourite of mine. Looking forward for the improvements!

Half-Life: Alyx fully playable without VR even on Steam Deck thanks to a mod

Quoting: rea987As it seems there isn't a .dll or .exe within the script. Can anyone try it with the native version? I really want to play this one without VR nonsense natively.
I understand "I can't afford it", "I get nausea" and even, to a lesser degree, "I don't want it". But "VR nonsense" is, well... nonsense. I don't own a VR device, but having tried it, it feels like climbing into the monitor and being inside the action after decades of just sitting on front of it and watching it. It's not suitable for everything, but where it is, it's a new level of gaming, comparable maybe to the change from pure text to images and from those to moving graphics. But I guess there's been people complaining about these "moving graphics nonsense" as well...

Quoting: Purple Library GuySo, given the potential problems involved with running Windows 11, let's assume that Valve, or even somebody else, get Steam OS running for this thing. Turning around the question that got asked so much before the release of the Steam Deck but then disappeared without a trace after a while, how many people will rip out Windows on this thing and put in SteamOS (or maybe ChimeraOS)?
As long as the experience is fine, not many people will do either I guess (which is supported by the hardware survey for Steam Deck). "IJW" - it just works, and that's fine and that's it.

Quoting: hardpenguinAs a ROG product with these specs there is no way this will have a price point anywhere close to Steam Deck. I don't see it as competition at all. It will simply be its own thing, an expensive product with a niche.
I remember Valve saying they'd be happy if other products help establishing a new device category, the handheld gaming PC.

Quoting: Beta VersionSteam Deck only or Linux overall?
They very clearly said specifically the Steam Deck.
They did, but do we have information yet that Steam is displaying that information to developers?

Quoting: KlaasSome people waste years polishing their work so they never finish it. You have to know when you've done enough.

On the other hand it's very annoying if you find a typo in the last paragraph just after printing and binding.
You will, no matter how long you polish. I recommend to not ever look into it again. :)

Fresh Steam Deck and Steam desktop Beta, Valve dropping old Windows support
28 Mar 2023 at 2:37 pm UTC

Quoting: kuunhaI don´t think Steam client needs to be 32 bits to run 32 bits Linux applications.
I don't think anybody said so, though?

My point is: If the vast majority of people is running 32 bit games, they need the environment anyway. Having the gate of making Steam 32 might even spare them some support troubles: If you can run Steam, you've got the basic setup right. The client won't profit too much from 64 bits either - it has got way larger problems than this. So, if I were Valve and would ask myself if I should make the client 64 bits, my question would be: Why would I?
