Hatred, the controversial shooter is now being tested for a Linux port

From the performance I've seen in videos, they didn't even test it for Windows. Why bother for Linux?

Brutality in games is like in the movies, and somehow, there's no one protests.
A lot of people did go "WTF, this shouldn't be on Steam, this is awful" back when it was about to come out, but once they saw how it actually played (buggy, repetitive, overwrought, basically The Room in video game form) they shrugged and said "Fool me once" and moved on.

OTOH, people who hate that first group opened their wallets happily and gave good reviews independent of quality. That's what I call the "fool me always" demographic.

The Fall of the Dungeon Guardians, a surprisingly great dungeon crawler

There's a fair few people comparing it to Grimrock which isn't surprising, as it's one of the newer games in the dungeon crawler genre, but I've been enjoying this game a lot more.
I'd personally compare it to Grimrock because the environments look almost exactly like Grimrock in quite a few places. Hell, that one bit at 0:46 where they press a hidden switch could easily be lifted directly from the earlier game. Other environments and how the camera moves look so similar that I thought from the start that this was just a mod of the original Grimrock with a few tweaks in how the party is handled.

Quoting: Mountain ManIs it randomized? That's the one thing I didn't like about Legend of Grimrock because it really limited the replay value.
There are some pretty good fan mods out there, so that's a plus.

Linux is holding exactly where we thought it would in the Steam Hardware Survey

I'm not expecting a huge jump in market share but a change that couldn't get overwhelmed by a rounding error would be nice. Has there been any change since the advent of Steam Machines that goes beyond normal month-to-month fluctuations?

The Dark Mod became more graphically impressive in their last update

Quoting: MajorLunaCI suggest moving Darkmod.cfg out of the game directory to see if that helps with any graphical issues. I think the download comes with one, but the game is supposed to make a custom one for your computer when you start up the game.
Just tried it, but unfortunately no luck. Same result as before.

I have trouble believing I have some unique configuration, since I never tinker with anything "under the hood" on my OS.

You might be able to get back your normal resolution by running "xrandr --auto".
Wow, that did some *really* weird stuff. Right monitor stayed the same, but left monitor came back with really weirdly sized windows. Mouse moved on both simultaneously, but wouldn't move off the terminal window until I closed it. Logging out and back in again reset everything to the way I had it originally, as before. Very strange. But at least I didn't need to reboot, that's progress.

Ugh, all I'm getting is a black screen on one monitor and a hugely enlarged file browser on the other, with no visible cursor and no clear way to shut it off. I ended up having to reboot to get out of it. The FAQ on the site tells me nothing, and I'm not seeing anything on the forums either. Guess this is another impossible-to-play game for me.

Edited to add: Okay, if I hit ~ and type "quit" it exits. However, all it does is dump me to my right monitor which is now in something like 640 x 480 mode and barely navigable. The left screen, where presumably TDM was running, remains black, and I need to log out and back in again to fix it all. But at least if anyone else has the same issue, they now have a way to get out.

Those things were in WoW and other games years before Minecraft existed.
And those things were in warcraft before WoW ruined warcraft. I just think the popularity of Minecraft has made it so that even if a game wasn't to include crafting it's almost obligatory now to do so.
Maybe it was, but we're talking about MMOs. WoW is the one I'm familiar with but they weren't and still aren't unique in that regard. I doubt Minecraft has much to do with its inclusion here.

Quoting: TheBossOh I agree, but I am hoping they put in some quality of life improvements in the UI for PC players like us, I've already reported a few to them and they are gaining agreement from people on their forum, so I'm doing my part.

I don't care about graphics, I care about style. The game looks good to me, I don't need ultra lifelike stuff to enjoy myself.
I'm with you on that. Hell, I prefer art that looks more cartoony, so long as they're placed in a world that's consistent with that style. Too-realistic styles actually kinda bore me after a while.

Edited to add: I find the top screenshot provided by Beamboom MUCH more appealing to the eye, and would rather play that than the photorealistic shot. So that's a thing.
