Valve tweak Steam Community Awards to deal with point farming and "attention-grabbing content"
11 Feb 2026 at 12:10 pm UTC

I'm late, but I want to say whenever I hear "I used clowns to determine whether I should read a post or not" I'm even more glad they were removed. Clowns can be awarded by anyone, including clowns themselves.

Frequently what I would see is pro-consumer posts being bombarded with clowns, such as asking for the removal of heavy-handed DRM. You always get replies like "you just want to pirate the game" as well. I don't know what kinda response that is, it reeks of either astro-turfing or there seems to be a psychological phenomenon where people feel the need to defend a game or series they enjoy from criticism involving "outside factors" like DRM

Either way good riddance, as bait posts aside, it was also used for bullying

Team Fortress 2 Classified (formerly Team Fortress 2 Classic) has launched on Steam
10 Feb 2026 at 8:29 am UTC

I'm just happy to see Valve being more open to official mod support generally speaking after they cease and desisted the TF2 Source 2 port for s&box.

TF2 Classified is awesome for its weapon creation framework, there's so many modded new weapons ready to be used on any server

Steam stable update brings end of life notice for 32-bit Windows and lots of bug fixes
6 Oct 2025 at 9:10 pm UTC

I checked and I have full working two hour recording. I checked few discussions and they seem to mention Flatpack. Didn't dig down very deep though.
It works sometimes and sometimes it doesn't. I have some suspicion that it breaks after switching to desktop mode or waking from sleep, but even then it's random.

I also figured out a reliable workaround but it's a little finnicky. If anyone is interested I wrote the whole thing down here: https://steamcommunity.com/app/1675200/discussions/0/603043375716899441/ [External Link]

Steam stable update brings end of life notice for 32-bit Windows and lots of bug fixes

Game Recording
Improved performance when recording is on for some games using Vulkan rendering
I'm not sure how many people have this issue but for me game recording hasn't been working since months ago, only recording a few frames then freezing the image.

I'm not sure if Valve is even aware of that or if it's my configuration but it seems a lot of people have that problem, not just me

Baldur's Gate 3 gets a Native Linux version to improve it on Steam Deck

So will the native Steam Deck version be available on GOG? Just because you use a Steam Deck doesn't mean everyone buys all their games from Steam.

I find this preferential treatment of customers based on what stores they bought from appalling. It's been an issue for many years but that doesn't make it any less frustrating; it seems weird that developers can —legally— give some customers more benefits than others later down the road just because they purchased from different stores...

At this point I'm even hesitant buying from itch due to bad experiences like that. Stuff like "Hey guys Imma release my game on Steam and also guess what Steam gets an exclusive multiplayer mode because screw LAN am I right and also u ain't getting a Steam key not even at a discount haha"

Humble Choice is getting another price increase
11 Sep 2025 at 1:41 am UTC

Whoops, I'm late to the party, I only just learned of the price increase... because I wanted to cancel my subscription after six years. So that decision had really nothing to do with the price.

I cancelled for multiple reasons:
  • Industry stuffing games with intrusive DRM that I don't want but obviously I don't have a say what gets in each month, I have to hope for reasonably ethical software in bundles

  • Associations with IGN and them practicing dishonest journalism. Didn't really feel like supporting that anymore, it's a shame they've been bought up and I feel I should have done this a long time ago anyway

  • Price increase on Classic Plan which has zero benefits compared to regular, new subscribers are better off and I personally don't believe that I was properly informed of this. From what I've heard this mostly affected customers outside the US but it's wild they just leave you hanging with a "Classic Plan" that rewards you with having to pay more than new subscribers and that's it lol

  • Constant exhausted keys, having to manually redeem games is already annoying but having to deal with the 'paperwork' of making sure to come back to exhausted keys is terrible and I don't think this should even happen in the first place

  • Expiration date on keys is big no-no

  • I only learned of the general price increase today but that's frankly another good reason to unsubscribe, I guess. Well, not as good as the previously mentioned reasons.

Also, I don't really need more games at the moment. After six years I've amassed a big enough backlog. I'm thinking I should at least play a few games I got from them each month but my track record has been about one game every two months. It's entirely too many games for me to keep up. Maybe paying half the price and only selecting four games would be a good option for many customers. Don't know what their contracts are and why cheaper plans with fewer games isn't a thing anymore.

The Linux version of the original Splitgate has been removed

Not lying. I fail to see the difference. Call that ignorance if you wish. Either way, players get to continue playing after official support is withdrawn.
I agree with the rest of what you said, this is an end-of-life plan in the spirit of StopKillingGames and as far as I'm concerned that is reason to celebrate.

But there is a difference between servers and peer-to-peer. In the case of an implementation where each client needs to confirm each game tick (probably not what they chose for a first-person-shooter, that's how you create a lag fest like Mario Maker 2), the laggiest player causes the game to lag for everyone. If they went with client-host where a single client also acts as the server, then you run into issues with host migration and that player's connection deciding over how laggy the entire game is.

Not really sure why they didn't release server software instead but oh well, better than a dead game, and maybe modders can create servers for it

ChimeraOS dev announced Kazeta, a new Linux OS aimed at recreating a classic console experience

I don't understand this obsession with "physical media". SD cards aren't any more durable than the internal storage of your PC or backup drives.

Personally, when I want to launch a different game, I don't actually want to get up, take out a storage device from my PC, search for a case, put in the old card, search for the next case, take out the new card and finally put that in my PC and start playing, when nowadays I can just do a search and launch any installed game directly.

That's infinitely more convenient as far as I'm concerned, everything else seems to be a nostalgia craze that I'm not getting. Granted, I've never been the most organized person, but as a kid it was a frequent problem for me wanting to play a game but having to look for a disk that I just couldn't find for ten minutes or so.

Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds is Steam Deck Verified but requires internet even for single-player

Surprised not to see (yet) some "I was interested but Denuvo" posts.
Yeah, I was interested but Denuvo. I have tons of kart racers on Steam as well as Mario Kart so I think my accounts can vouch for that.

For the time being I'm satiated with the Karters 2 as that game isn't just incredibly fun and highly unique in the genre, but it also has a crazy high skill ceiling. So much practice ahead of me still...

Gyro through a collection of handcrafted mazes in the Steam Deck exclusive Game With Balls

Also like in general, people on PC hate the entire concept of "exclusives".
Well, I personally don't. Not exclusives in the vein of what this game's doing.

I dislike it when games are made exclusive for a platform when it can work fine on other platforms. But I don't dislike exclusive peripheral choices. If a game was made to be played with a Guitar Hero controller, you get a Guitar Hero Controller. If it was meant to be played with a Lightgun, you get a Lightgun. If it was made for Wiimotes, you get a Wiimote. If it was made for VR, you get a VR headset. If it uses a cam to use your video streamed body as the controller, you get a cam. If it's a Karaoke game, you get a mic. And so on and so forth, there's plenty of examples of games made for specific peripherals.

Games are an interactive medium, and as such the peripherals are the be-all and end-all. I don't think devs should be forced to support gamepad, mouse and keyboard for every game as that can be a serious limitation for creative freedom.

And also, it's not true forced exclusivity anyways. You can buy and install the game on any PC even when you don't have any gyro devices, and someone will probably mod in a way to use mouse support. Even Half-Life Alyx, a VR game, was modded to use mouse controls.
