That wasn't my conclusion at all - sorry if it looked that way - rather, that neither native or emulation is "better" than the other, both have their places.
Emulation is what you resort to if a good native build is not available. There's simply no question about which is better, from any practical standpoint. That's no argument against emulation of course, just that there's no point in this comparison.

Well, there's always the standpoint of the developer who doesn't really want to put in (or can't financially justify) the effort, and that's one we shall have to tolerate as long as we represent such a small market. For us Linux gamers though, native is the obvious winner.

Personally, I recently have begun to question that native binaries are better. I have a perfect boxed copy of X2: The Threat from LGP, yet that won't work on any modern distro anymore. Nor can I feasibly emulate (or virtualize) an old distro, with 3D acceleration, since no vendor makes drivers for distros that old. But I can play the Steam version in Wine just fine.
I have to agree with Beamboom here. Wine is great, and many games run extremely well on it, but it will never be perfect. That's just a fact. Native releases are the way to go.

Steam Play is great for a younger audience with games like LEGO Jurassic World

I remember my young nephew was extremely disappointed after getting this game as a gift and then bumping into a game breaking bug quite a bit into the game. Something to do with hang gliders or parachutes if I remember correctly. He played on Windows of course, and quite a while ago. Hopefully that has either been fixed or doesn't trigger on Proton or your hardware.

Might be issue with your DE/WM or compositing. Perf drop with this on is just 1-2% and when testing GTK response times it adds just few milliseconds for the GTK windows.
It's not a performance drop. It's that I feel a delay when I pick up a window to move it and it really irritates me.
Maybe your desktop compositor? I remember I switched off the vsync option in compton back when I started running my old 960 with ForceFullCompositionPipeline enabled.

Move over Steam Link, there's a Raspberry Pi app in town now

Quoting: MayeulCUnfortunately, last time I checked, there was only a curl | bash way of installing it (which is a big no-no)
Out of curiosity, why is installing via curl not recommended?
I don't think the command being curl is the important bit here, but the fact that they ask you to blindly execute a shell script you download from an internet URL. Of course, you can just download the script first and check it over before executing. I certainly would.

Did you play the original or the remaster/re-release? They actually made some of the more frustrating parts easier IIRC.
Rerelease. Still annoying.
When did this remaster happen? I played the first linux port from humble, iirc
That's the re-release. Remaster might be a strong word here, but if I remember correctly, it supports more resolutions than the original with some assorted tweaks here and there.

In my opinion Psychonauts' charm and innovative design easily offset its quirks. The new game being a very direct sequel is as good a reason as any to (re)visit the original.

Maybe not for full price if you're not sure, but it regularly goes for 90% off at itch.io, GOG, Steam and Humble.

Mesa 18.3.0 for those of you using the open source drivers

Took me a while to remember that yes, I am indeed using the open source drivers as of a week ago.
