Surprise, F1 2017 for Linux appears on SteamDB

Quoting: ArthurI might quite possibly get it. Maybe I should get a wheel first though...? Dirt Rally is difficult with just a keyboard.
Analog controls are a must unless you're playing a very simplistic arcade racer. A decent gamepad does the job, but a wheel does it better. Their accuracy, range and more natural feedback will definitely give you an edge.

EVERSPACE is finally nearing a release on Linux, initial release will be under the radar

Quoting: EhvisUnder the radar. Until Liam posts that it has released. :P
It's a stealth article, doesn't show up in radar.

Quoting: ShmerlNot for gaming.
Especially for gaming, simply for the fact that most games produced for PC are still only available and produced for Windows. I’d say that for someone who always wants to play the latest and greatest titles on PC Windows still is the operating system of choice.
Shmerl is absolutely right. Windows is definitely not "a must for gaming". I enjoy gaming just fine without it. You're moving the goal posts.

Quoting: subHmm, I wonder if this hints that HL3 will probably never see the light of day.
I'm pretty sure Laidlaw (still) knows the state of this game.
Why would he release this, if HL3 is coming?
Because it's a story he wanted to write, and he knows won't appear in a game? If HL3 ever materializes, I doubt it would be based on any plans that might have existed for HL2 EP3.

Quoting: CybolicWell, I'm mostly basing it on my own experience, where I had to run a specific piece of graphing software for Windows for a math course on my previous aging laptop and there was no way I would ever be able to get it to run anything as new as GTK3.
Hmm... I don't get why that should stop you from improving Vineyard. I'd imagine an older version of your software would work just fine in this case. Just leave GTK2 support in a low-effort maintenance branch or something.

Ryan "Icculus" Gordon is looking for new games to port to Linux, pay not required

Quoting: EhvisIt's irrelevant anyway. This is about who would like his help in porting. It is unlikely that he could get an AAA publisher to even consider it. A few relevant posts in this thread mentioned developers that were interested, but didn't really have the man power or experience with Linux. I think those would be good candidates.
Agreed.

Quoting: DolusI think something a little more down to earth would be good to start with. Wayforward would be a good place to start. I think we'd all like the Shantae games on Linux.
Never heart of those...
I got a key for Shantae: Risky's Revenge - Director's Cut in the Humble Eye Candy bundle, never activated. I would definitely like to play it, but I bought the bundle for Human Resource Machine.

Anyway, you won't find a single game all of us would like. In this case you'd obviously hear the usual litany of "oh noes retro platformer give me my AAA" complaints.

Quoting: CybolicWell, to be fair, Vineyard is also GTK2. I have a feeling there are a few people running statistical Windows programs on Puppy Linux who'd be rather upset with me if I upgraded to that bloated new GTK version ;P
Sure, and then they whine about every other modern feature they personally don't happen to need at this particular moment. They can always stick to an older version of the software. But obviously you should build a curses UI for them.

Quoting: ShmerlI don't like GTK in general. GTK2 is simply dead upstream as far as I know, and won't work with Wayland for instance. I expect some distros to start purging it in the future. Debian already plan to purge Qt 4.x for example.
Dead is a strong word. It's old, superseded by GTK3 and purely in maintenance mode, but it is well maintained. Too many large companies (like Red Hat for example) depend on it still.

Of course GTK2 won't get new features like Wayland support, and every active project should upgrade ASAP. Or switch toolkits if that's what they prefer, I don't really mind. QT is nice as well.

Quoting: monsieursauce- Also, do you plan to release tutorials ? I would love to know more about setting up my wine layer for some games - so that I can finally run Homeworld Remastered!-, know more about Linux, or else.
I don't really use Wine myself and don't really plan to make Wine tutorials a regular feature. There's so many native games we prefer to keep to reporting on them mainly.
There's always the Guides and HOWTOs section of the GOL wiki. Seems like a good place for all kinds of tutorials. With appropriate subsections of course.

Seems like minecraft with commitment issues to me. Did they just list all the game ideas they could think of and jam them all in? Is this supposed to be an actual game, or more of a weird time-waster like Goat Simulator?
