How To: An update on fixing screen-tearing on Linux with an NVIDIA GPU
11 January 2017 at 5:00 pm UTC Likes: 1

Hmm... I wonder why I've had no need for this stuff on at least three generations of Nvidia cards. Maybe it's down to my choice of compositor? I remember having trouble with video tearing at some point, but that was before VDPAU support in players.

EDIT:

Quoting: Twomby
Quoting: liamdawe@Twomby, you likely need to update your driver.
Also, as stated, click Advanced.

Whether I click Basic or Advanced, I get the same screen. Should have posted a screengrab with Advanced settings to avoid confusion. My NVIDIA drivers are the latest version (375.10 BETA).

Did you update nvidia-settings as well? Also, the latest version is 375.26, right?

Yeah, but I don't think game devs will switch to Rust just to use it. Anyway, the more the better. There's never a single approach that works best for everybody.

Some already might. Rust can remove a lot of pains that exist in C++ despite all the latest advancement in the language. The only thing that can slow down such adoption would be middleware. Tons of stuff exists in C++ for gaming engines to use, and so far there is no interop with Rust (or with any other language for that matter really). Libraries in C are better in this sense - you can use them from Rust. SDL is a good example.
Sure, but this only applies to projects that start from scratch. And besides, you're underestimating the effort and the risk of dumping existing code bases and know-how in any organization larger than a single developer.

I don't doubt that Rust is a nice programming language though.

It's not our emails or personal details we're talking about, but anything we write or say using their services. You know, content, whether it's public or private. It's okay if that doesn't bother you personally.

Quoting: tuubiPerhaps. Or perhaps you've been lucky. Just for the record I had my first crash sometime after crossing over to the Dead Barrens, and most of them much further into the game. They seemed to be completely random and happened all over the map though. Looking at all the reports of bugs and crashes on Windows around the web, I doubt these have anything to do with Linux or our drivers.

Yep. It feels like corruption of some sort. If you try to restart the game immediately after a crash it will crash again, everytime, in the first minutes of the "relaunch". After a reboot, the crash doesn't occur for quite a while... Until another "corruption".
Well, this kinda shows how random these problems are, but for me it seemed to work fine if I just restarted the game immediately.

Quoting: DanglingPointerWell I've never had the game crash at all. Only bug I've noticed is sometimes when giving water to thristy wanderers I end up floating down from a few feet back to the ground. I've never died for no reason whatsover.

I'm on AMD radeonSI open source drivers though I can see you've got a GTX960. Perhaps the nvidia driver's buggy.

QuoteI've seen people worried about their terms and conditions, with it stating that by using it you grant rights to your content to the parent Company. To make it clear, this is no different to Reddit, Facebook and almost every site/application that you put content into.
Which is why GOL is pretty much the only site I "put content into". Mumble (+Murmur) seems like the better choice on this front. I've never used either so maybe there are compelling reasons to prefer Discord anyway.

Quoting: STiATHmh, lacking a bit of docs... reading a bit of the sourcecode (for me) does not really tell me how to "properly" use the API.
No wonder considering the dislaimer:
QuoteSince this project is in its early stages and under heavy development expect bugs and interface changes for a while. It should not be used for production code yet!

I've had very acceptable performance throughout the game. Some short hitches here an there, but mostly smooth going. I haven't measured the FPS and I don't really care. Gastown wasn't noticeably different. 1080p and settings mostly at the High preset, with anisotropic filtering upped to 8. Landscape Debris seems to be at Normal at this preset. I'm almost done with the game now, just the final story mission to go, I think.

The experience hasn't been bug-free, but I think most of these bugs are in the Windows port as well. I actually sent a bug report to Feral at a point where I seemed to get crashes to desktop every couple of hours, but that problem seemed to fix itself for some mysterious reason. Or maybe the crashes are truly random and I've been lucky since. Also had some sound effects fail to trigger and a couple of times where Max suddenly just died either mid-run and once even during a cut-scene. I've still enjoyed the game a lot. Especially the exploration and driving. The story is nothing to write home about, but I didn't expect much in that department.

This game is pretty much what I wanted Shadow of Mordor to be. I regret buying Shadow of Mordor, but Mad Max almost made up for it.

Ever been to the Internet before? As they say, 90% is porn and the rest pretty much heated arguments about stuff that just doesn't matter.
don't forget the cats. :P
Also arguments about cats, and cat(girl) porn, and most likely cat memes suitable for arguments about all of the above because this is the Internet.
