Yeah yeah. I'm happy that you're happy, but that doesn't change anything. It is obvious that crowdfunding is increasingly seen by well-to-do developers as a remarkably risk and obligation free source of funding, as an alternative to publishers, (actual) investors or loans.

I'm more than okay with tiny indie teams with little chance of getting funded otherwise make use of these platforms, but when bigger studios with several well received titles do it pretending they've got no choice, it really rubs me the wrong way. I know, it's no skin off my back. I'll just buy the finished product after I've seen a few reviews. I can't afford to buy stuff I may or may not receive, and may or may not even like anyway.

I'd be sorry for your sensitivity issues if you didn't seem so proud of them. Your condition is usually diagnosed as garden variety machismo. Don't worry, it's very treatable. Although the realisation that women are people like you--just with slightly different anatomy--is often a hard pill to swallow. Also, it's okay to admit that you feel stuff other than anger or hunger. That won't make you any less of a man, just a bit less of a douche.

That young lady sure wasn't good at her job though.

Can we get back to games and Linux now?

To summarise this thread: Crowdfunding sucks, Paypal blows, Wasteland is awesome.

I won't fund but will definitely buy. I loved Wasteland 2 DC, and I'm looking forward to another well written crpg from InXile. It'll be a while though. Torment: Tides of Numenera is still in Early Access.

Quoting: Mountain ManOne-way doors and an inability to sleep without a bedroll? I dunno, man... that sounds like "fake difficulty" to me.
Yes it does, but this is a survival game we're talking about, not a simulator. You've got to draw the line somewhere. It's also in early access so we'll see how it develops.

Yeah, there are x86_64 binaries and libraries in the package.

'Firewatch', the first person mystery adventure game has a major update, new game mode and Unity update

Firewatch is still high on my wishlist. I hope the dialogue is written as well as it's made up to be. I'm a sucker for witty banter. The pretty graphics do not hurt either.

Quoting: Purple Library GuyI mean whole minutes spent looking at the bloody moons or something, with no action, no dialogue, nothing!

Not nothing. They build up atmosphere and suspense. A breather between more intense scenes. And even there, a glance between characters already told a lot.

This is unfortunately something that a lot of editors don't get. So they produce all these annoying rapid cuts, rushing from scene to scene, removing all the build-up.
I'm not a Lynch fan, for reasons other than pacing, but I bet if both of you were made to watch a Wim Wenders movie like Wings of Desire / Der Himmel über Berlin, one would fall into a coma while the other would rather enjoy the experience.

Quoting: Cheeseness... it doesn't feel like it disrupts or slows down the narrative the way that many other book adaptations suffer from (I'm looking at you, Peter Jackson's Lord of the Rings).
Wow, maybe I'm not the only one who can't stay awake watching the LotR movies. But I always thought the books were a bit boring as well.

The GameCube and Wii emulator 'Dolphin' can now boot every GameCube game

Quoting: ChuckaluphagusThe real trick they used is dead simple: the drives in the Gamecube and Wii spin the media in reverse (as compared with a standard DVD drive).
That's not the only difference though. Read this for some details.

Quoting: ChuckaluphagusSurprisingly effective copy-prevention solution.
Really? Is that why a simple google search tells you exactly how to rip them using a soft-modded Wii? :D

Quoting: GuestWhen will Dolphin ever let me use the actual Gamecube discs?
Nintendo intentionally used a proprietary disc format that is incompatible with normal DVD drives.
