Aspyr Media Are Teasing A New Game, They Promise Many Penguin Smiles
25 Apr 2015 at 8:18 am UTC

Quoting: tohurThink the game they are porting is WWE 2k15.
I have a hard time imagining WWE is a game that's been requested from Aspyr thousands of times. Or that it's one of Aspyr_Blair's personal all time favorites, but everything's possible I guess.

I wonder if they already use ccache to speed up iterative builds. It's not like it's an obscure piece of software or anything. And even if a complete build takes ages, why would they recompile absolutely everything after every little tweak as they seem to imply? Is it company policy to only do clean builds during development? I hope I misunderstood.

And for distributed compiling on Linux, isn't distcc a fairly common choice?

Lots of questions addressed to nobody in particular...

Quoting: Segata SanshiroYeah, there's been games with better stories, but I think where this fell short is more a reflection of the genre rather than the quality of the writers.
True. And it also had a definite Hollywoodian produced-rather-than-designed quality to it, like all modern big budget games tend to have. Playing it safe to appeal to the widest possible target audience and whatnot. But in the end it's all in the eye of the beholder as they say. Some of us are bound to like the story more than others.

I'll have to join the chorus in saying this game doesn't deserve all the hyperbole. It's okay and has some innovative elements to it. The combat was fine, but I'm more of a story guy. That's why I usually play games like this on the easiest setting (unless there's a bullshit penalty attached). Life's challenging enough. I don't need my entertainment to frustrate me as well.

The story... well, it is certainly okay but not ground-breaking. Well, maybe it's not the kind of story the younger generation of gamers would have been exposed to otherwise. That might go some way to explain the "bestest story evar" type reviews you've all seen around the Internets. It certainly didn't blow my mind. Not that my mind needs to be blown to make the experience worthwhile.

Daedalic Releases Goodbye Deponia On Linux

Rufus is a dick. Not even a lovable scamp like our furry psychopath friends Sam & Max. I don't know how anyone could actually like him as a protagonist. Sorry, Sanshiro. ;) Still I couldn't help enjoying the trilogy. The world of Deponia is refreshingly original and the production values are mostly top-notch. IMHO well worth playing and paying for.

In my headcanon you've got a deadly weapon mounted on your noggin. :P

Quoting: scaineYou can't move it for many reasons. Best use of screen space, assumptions can be made about layout, fits with the phone/touch paradigm, code base is significantly simpler. With hindsight, the phone paradigm is the main winner here.
Why would I want my mouse-and-keyboard controlled desktop with a large monitor to work like a phone with a tiny touch screen, especially when I'm not the least bit interested in getting an Ubuntu phone? I'd get it if this was an alternate UI or something, but for the default UI of a mainstream desktop distro this sounds just a bit insane. This is the kind of "shut up you like it if we say you like it" design I very much dislike when practiced by MS and especially Apple.

So yeah, I don't like Unity at all either, but I don't mind that others do. It's mostly a matter of preference after all.

Quoting: scaineBut if their incredibly ambitious vision is to work, then Launcher on the left it is. Just for once, I'm willing to change to accommodate Linux, when for many years, Linux changed to accommodate me.
Be fair. It's Ubuntu you're accommodating, not Linux.

Quoting: mastereduJust think about, if you would have friends and family, would you *really* recommend them to use Linux? Like really? I wouldn't.
I do have friends and family, and I've recommended Linux to them for years. Many of them have switched (often with my help) and none have complained. My friends and family are mostly not gamers, though. I'm sorry your experience with Linux hasn't been as positive.

Killing Floor 2 Will Sadly Not See A Same-day Linux Release
8 Apr 2015 at 8:13 am UTC

This is about early access, right? The actual release might still be simultaneous.

OT: Personally I don't get why people are so eager to play unfinished games. No early access for me, ever.

Just for reference, I'm pretty sure this is where Samsai gets his numbers:

I've got a GTX 760 as well, and this screenie shows the relevant section of NVIDIA X Server Settings.
