Please make it stop - Google Chrome to be reimagined with AI
20 Sep 2025 at 8:39 am UTC

I do have Chrome installed on my devices, just in case a website doesn't work in Firefox w/uBO. In my experience, it's usually my state's government websites that work better in Chrome.

Please make it stop - Google Chrome to be reimagined with AI

I don't like the pushing of constant AI features myself, but I plan to stay on Firefox. Firefox is FOSS, while Vivaldi is proprietary. I prefer to use FOSS whenever possible.

NVIDIA are investing $5 billion in Intel to develop new chips together

The current i5-12400 in my desktop will probably be my last Intel purchase (although I did buy it secondhand). I do not like NVIDIA, and I refuse to buy any of their products. If they're getting involved with Intel, then I'll move to buying AMD products in the future.

KDE officially release the first alpha of KDE Linux their new reference implementation OS

I love an immutable distro with Flatpaks. Snaps aren't my thing, but they only included the option; it's not like Ubuntu.

If you need packages outside Flathub, then they're not for you. However, if you're someone like me who likes Flatpak and can get everything he needs from there, immutable is great. Ever since I switched to Bazzite + Aurora, I don't have to think about anything. Everything just works, no stability issues whatsoever.

That said, I do question why KDE installed Dolphin as a Flatpak rather than baking it into the OS image. In my opinion, the file manager is best installed as a native package. SteamOS, Bazzite and Aurora all do this; yet, KDE went with the Dolphin Flatpak. I hope that doesn't cause issues.

EDIT: It turns out I was mistaken about Dolphin being installed as a Flatpak. This was done on the pre-alpha, but the Alpha release does have Dolphin, Arc and other utilities baked into the OS image.

The impressive app store Bazaar has arrived on Flathub

I gave Bazaar a fair shot since Bazzite replaced Discover with it, but it's missing one thing I liked in Discover. Right now, I just install all my flatpaks via terminal (Yakuake).

Aurora offered a choice to use Bazaar or stick with Discover, but that appears to be the exception.

Leaks again hint at Valve doing a proper Steam Machine Console

I'd be interested in a console-esque Steam Machine, but I'm curious how long it'd be viable for. My experience with PC gaming these past several years tells me that, if you want to keep up with the latest AAA games (especially if you want to play at 4K), you can expect to at least swap out your GPU once or twice throughout a PC's lifespan.

Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines 2 launches October 21 but you have to pay extra for all the content

I always played Toreador in Bloodlines, but looking at all this makes me want to vomit like a Ventrue who just drank peasant blood.

Valve confirm that Steam purchases with PayPal have been limited to a few select currencies

I consider using PayPal a safer alternative than paying directly with my card; along with Google Wallet on my phone. Until something better comes along, and has an equivalent to PayPal's Pay-in-4, then I will keep using PayPal.

Linux Mint 22.2 Beta available for the next long-term supported release
14 Aug 2025 at 1:17 am UTC

When I first got into Linux, Mint was what I tried to install because that was what my research said was the best starting point. Unfortunately, it never wanted to install; I ended up Lubuntu, then Ubuntu, Xubuntu, etc. It may have been s problem with Rufus, but I flashed Lubuntu and Ubuntu using Rufus back then and they installed no problem.

I wouldn't use Mint now, for a variety of reasons, but I'd have no problem recommending it to someone. However, based on my experience with new people switching to Linux, I find atomic distros more beginner friendly. Again, just my experience.

Developer of PlayStation 1 emulator DuckStation threatens "removing Linux support entirely" but not yet

I can understand getting frustrated by constant bug reports from people using unofficial packages and filing their issues upstream.

That said, Stenzek is known for drama, and I quit using DuckStation years ago; despite it being the thing that really got me into emulation back in 2020. I much prefer using the Beetle PSX core in RetroArch. It works perfectly, and PS1 games look and run just like they did when I was a kid. I do not need, nor want, upscaling for PS1 games; PS1 games without the low resolution polygons and jaggies look wrong to me.
