I love these Steam Next Fest's! So I tried some demos, and here's how it went:
- homeworld 3: autodected ultra visual settings, ran at 16fps, made me nauseous. Turned it down to high, got to about 20 fps. Turned it down to medium, finally ran at 70+ fps. But now the asteroid in front of me looks like a smooth rubber ball. Needs some MAJOR optimizations. Also I had to accept a crazy amount of legal agreements with a billion pages I'll never read.
- pacific drive: Up until now I was SUPER EXCITED for this, but now I can safely forget it about it forever. 1) Doesn't even run at all on linux. 2) no ultrawide support. 3) even if it did run, everyone else is saying it runs at like 20 fps (but this'll be improved I'm sure)
- bore blaster: holy shit so much fun!!! I'm always on the lookout for something that can scratch that steamworld dig itch, and this isn't exactly the same, but it's SO FUN!!! I can definitely see running this on the deck a lot. This is a definite purchase.
- dungeonborne: can safely forget about this forever as well. Never got to even play it. Doesn't launch, and upon reading the discussions, apparently because of the anti-cheat garbage they use. Oh well.

Quoting: wytrabbitHomeworld 3 is Published by Gearbox (Embracer) 😬Oh lord, that's terrible news. And as I sit here downloading the demo right now, now suddenly I have almost no interest. Damn.

Finally getting to Weird West from my monstrous backlog. I'm loving the art style, the story (thus far) is interesting, and the powers seem pretty cool. I just dislike the combat so much. I REALLY wish it were turn based tactical instead, but as is, I find once stealth is broken, it devolves into "run around like a crazy person just spamming shots everywhere" which involves very little strategy or thinking, etc... Oh well, I'm still going with my first character, and having fun, so I'll keep on keepin on!

Quoting: GuestMicrosoft itself is on a firing bloodbath. Indeed, Microsoft's xbox division isn't doing great if rumors are to be believed. It seems that Microsoft will be going multiplatform and Gamepass will be relegated to xbox while most Microsoft games will be available on PC as well.I've always been surprised that the xbox has existed for as long as it has in console form. It does SO TERRIBLE globally. I always thought they would just join xbox/gamepass branding together, kill the console, and just release stuff on pc (and maybe other consoles). But it just keeps living on.

NOOOOOO. My favorite all time series. Ugh. And another Embracer clusterbomb. How many studios does this miserable umbrella corp own? Every time I see their name I just think "stay as far away from this cancer as possible" as the only news I've EVER seen of them is closing / firings.

Wow .... it may have finally happened. I may have finally found a factory sim type game that I actually enjoy!!! Whoa. This genre always seemed like something that I would love, but almost every game I try in it always falls into two categories for me: too casual / simple, or the opposite: too complex / insane with the mechanics. I just spent some time in the demo for this game and wow, loving it!!! I love how there are no resources / time, no enemies attacking, no residents dying, etc etc. Just freeform building and optimizing. I love it!
