So true. In almost every part of the video, I preferred the RTX off. It is nice to see a classic get any kind of graphical update, though.
Sadly the RoadCraft demo is currently broken on Steam Deck / Linux

As someone who recently discovered Snowrunner and is totally addicted to it, I really hope they fix it before launch.

Quoting: CatKillerI don't think this'll be in the Deck 2. The Deck is still ramping up as a platform - Valve want to wait as long as possible before they disrupt that. This chip will be useful for the annual-release also-rans, though.I agree. The longer Valve waits, the more established the Deck 1 user base becomes, and is an increasingly appealing platform for devs to make sure their game works great on it. Some games now have a Steam Deck preset when you tweak their performance (Like Cyberpunk 2077). You wouldn't have that kind of recognition if they changed the device performance often. The Nintendo Switch is ancient hardware, but there are so many in circulation that it's still getting games. I'm not suggesting Valve should wait as long as Nintendo did, just that there is value in sticking with aging hardware for a while.
Linux smashes another market share record for August 2024 on Statcounter

I'm hoping more software companies will realize that a 5% market share of over a billion desktop computers is not something they should ignore. Especially considering that first movers will get a chance to establish themselves in this new market. For example, if the Affinity suite would be ported, but the market leader, Adobe, waited until Linux had a 10-15% market share, Affinity would be the #1 professional level creative software on this platform. They could make a lot of money and, more importantly, develop brand loyalty.
Linux user share on Steam breaks 2% thanks to Steam Deck

It's nice to know that the other 55% of people gaming on Linux are doing it on regular PCs. Since there are millions of Steam Deck sold, that could mean millions of PCs used for gaming on Linux.
In other news, the stat counter worldwide desktop market share survey has been plummeting back down from its 4.05% milestone in March. It's at 3.77% in the May results.

Quoting: elgatilI live in Spain and I really really want to like Slimbook laptops. But why, oh why, do they keep shipping laptops without AMD GPUs? I think it is really clear that among the linux crowd AMD is the preferred option by a wide margin. They do have models with an AMD GPU, but they are not listed on fedora.slimbook.com

Quoting: ahoneybunI have to edit the .desktop file for Steam to launch it at 200% since it keeps using 100%. I still see 100% from time to time though for some reason. This update only made it to the beta version, so we'll have to wait some more to be able to use it without the shortcut workaround

p.s. I'm not saying that this justifies cheating. I'm just saying it's creating an incentive for it for some people.

Quoting: TheRiddickApparently is FULL of cheaters/hackers.I would add that the best way to stop a good chunk of cheating would be to remove any kind of battle pass / seasonal loot that you need to grind for after paying for it. There was always cheating in games, but the reason it's been more prevalent in recent years is because a lot of people are looking for ways to skip the built-in grind.
The only way to stop cheating is custom design anti-cheat into their OWN server and client code, relying on generic third party tools only cuts out the MOST laziest of cheaters!

Ray-Tracing performance uplift coming to the AMD RADV Linux graphics driver

This is awesome, especially considering that AMD card are slower than Nvidia when it comes to ray tracing. I'd love to see a benchmark comparing the two, once this patch makes it to everyone's favourite distro. I'm sure a comparable Nvisia card still beats AMD, but maybe the difference is no longer as significant.
I'm really glad I got an RX 7800 XT.

I have set the environment variable with an export so that it's permanent, but Steam doesn't seem to use it. I does work when ran from the command line with:
steam -forcedesktopscaling 1.5
or
STEAM_FORCE_DESKTOPUI_SCALING=1.5 steam
Launching it from a Plasma shortcut or just having steam start on boot ignores the environment variable (at least on X11)
