Played it for the first time tonight and it runs very well. Averaging around 50-60 fps on mid-range PC. Runs smoothly with no crashes or stutters.
Specs are:
Ubuntu 14.04
Intel i3-4150
GTX-650
8Gb Ram
I think VP did a great job. Bioshock ran great also.
Thanks VP!

The release wasn't exactly a big bang and I was hoping Half Life 3 would be released. But then again, this is a long term vision that Valve has so I'm guessing there's a few surprises down the track.

Several Sites Publish Their Thoughts On Steam Machines & The Steam Controller

I wouldn't take much notice of them.

Quoting: ChiKinIf you read the comments on Ars, it doesn't look good. Most of the commenters on Ars are Microsoft fanboys. They all say the same thing: "can't see the point of Steam Machines", "not enough games", "Linux games don't run well compared to Windows", "why not just get Windows in Big Picture Mode instead", "OpenGL is crap".....blah blah.
I wouldn't take much notice of them.

Don't Count On Any EA Frostbite Powered Games On Linux

Fact is, MS and EA have a "strategic partnership". EA wouldn't do anything to mess that up by being Linux friendly.

Quoting: EndeavourAccuracyThe (secret) truth is not that Microsoft is steering EA in a certain direction. There is no conspiracy. You cannot look into the future. You don't know if we will "never see EA on Linux".I wouldn't be so sure about that given all the exclusivity deals between Microsoft and EA. Not to mention, MS giving away a free copy FIFA 14 with every XBox sold.

While no Frostbite games will be ported to Linux anytime soon, there's no reason for EA not publish any future Crysis games on Linux given the CryEngine engine has already been ported to Linux. So it's not all doom and gloom.

Great job by VP. I thought they did a great with Bioshock as well. Played the whole game on a rig with mid-range specs and it ran smoothly the whole way. They've certainly delivered in my book.
Ubuntu Developers Looking To Simplify Getting Latest Nvidia Graphics Drivers

Installing and updating drivers is easy if you know what to do. If you want the latest and greatest drivers from a PPA, it's usually involves a couple of lines of copy and paste into the terminal and that's it.
However, for newbies who don't know anything about the terminal, a more intuitive way would be preferable. So this might be a good idea.

I have no problem with VP and their ports. Bioshock and The Witcher 2 ran extremely well on my system and I have only mid-range specs. Not one crash nor one freeze.
After a rocky start, they are doing a great job and we should support them rather than complain about this or that.
