The Witcher 3 didn't come to Linux likely as a result of the user-backlash from The Witcher 2

This doesn't surprise me at all. I remember reading the Steam forums at the time and I couldn't believe the amount of over-the-top negative criticism being directed at VP. I felt sorry for those guys. They (VP) were doing the Linux gaming community a huge favor by porting TW2 and this the thanks they get. Sure, they didn't get it right the first time, it happens with any developer, but the comments should have remained civil and criticism should have been constructive.
VP have done a great job with Bioshock, Dirt Showdown and Saints Row. I can only hope they've forgiven us and are planning more big title ports for Linux. And frankly, I couldn't care less if the ports are not fully native, as they as they run well.

Quoting: Whitewolfe80WINE = Wine Is Not An Emulator.Quoting: Guestwe can argue the technical terms but in laymen terms it emulates itQuoting: Whitewolfe80emulating dx11WINE is just a communication layer between DX and opengl. It doesn't "emulate" any thing.
Emulation is a reproduction (or mimic) of a system with newly written code.

Dear Valve and Steam Machines OEMs, you have it all wrong

Steam boxes have the advantage of using a free OS, something XBox doesn't have and it's been wasted.

Quoting: dmantioneI fully agree about CPU: An i3 fine. The i5 should be used for a top-end Steam Machine and an i7 in a Steam Machine is pure nonsense. It basically shows that Dell are a PC manufacturer and not very experienced in the game business.Totally agree. I have i3-4150, a GTX 750 along with 8Gb RAM and it smoothly runs anything you throw at it, at least with mid-settings. Never had any issues with Bioshock or Shadow of Mordor. Tomb Raider runs at a nice 80 FPS. I see no reason at all to spend another $100-200 to upgrade to an i5 or i7 just for a few extra FPS. Valve and the OEM's need to get smart and offer units with similar specs that are affordable (under $400) and which get the job done instead of going for high end stuff like i5 and i7 processors.

Right now, lets be honest and say there's no reason for the average Windows user to switch to Linux.
There are still many AAA games on Windows that are not on Linux. And overall, the performance on Windows is better than Linux due to things like better driver support and the fact that most games are written to run on Windows with Linux versions ported later. While companies like Feral and VP have done a fantastic job porting big games to Linux, in many Window's users minds, the performance difference may still be significant for them.
Clearly it's going to take time. Hopefully, with better driver support (Vulkan adoption will help) and with more big titles being ported/released on Linux these numbers will inevitably change.

The reviews on Steam are awful. Everybody's complaining about performance issues and crashes. It's easy to see why it's been cancelled.
Sad news because I was really looking forward to this game.

Boss, there's nothing wrong with saying Merry Xmas while also wishing Happy Holidays to those who don't celebrate Xmas (sometimes I do think we as a society go overboard with the political correctness).
And a big thank you to Liam who works tirelessly to keep this very good website going. It's one of my favorites.
Cheers all!
