Dreamfall Chapters review

Quoting: jordicoma..."the longest journey" only runs on windows on software mode. It uses directx 7, if you want 3d; and wine has little support, and windows even less...
I was just about to ask about this game. The Wine db gave this title a bronze rating. Is it playable in software mode?
If I get it from GOG I have to deal with installers. But the upside is once it's installed I can work within a wine prefix better than running the steam version. Do GOG installers work well with wine?

Third release candidate of Wine version 1.8 is out

Thanks to those pointing out the ~/...wine-builds ppa. The staging package was
compiled by Lackner. He wrote the patch for the steam browser. Good deal.

I was unable to find a ppa providing wine newer than 1.7.44, in Ubuntu. That's
too old for my tastes. I'm right now working on compiling wine myself.
This third release candidate still doesn't fixed bug #39403. That would fix the
built in browser in steam. Staging has provided a patch but still has yet to be
merged.

Don't Count On Any EA Frostbite Powered Games On Linux

Why is it that some small time developer from some indie house can port their game
to opengl/cross-plat but the big studios with multi million dollar budgets and 75 employees
can't be bothered?
