Rust has now sold over 30 thousand copies on Linux

Quoting: AnxiousInfusionBefore we proclaim that Linux users earned Facepunch an extra 700K, let's remember that a huge proportion of those sales were probably at a discount. I would be willing to bet the true figure is several hundred thousand dollars lower. And that's not a Linux problem, PC gaming in general is huge on price cuts and seasonal sales.
Quite right. And I would also add that Linux sales can quite easily be counted as Windows sales by Valve if for example you've bought the game on your Android phone or on another computer and you haven't played it in the two weeks after purchase.

The curious tale of vanishing Linux & SteamOS ports, a status on a few of them

Quoting: dmantioneThe Rocket League SteamOS branch is now regularily updated, so I guess it will really happen for this game. For the other named games, I have little hope.

It has been updated regularly since last year. Expect when nearing release of a new patch, there has been regular updates on this branch. The Linux version was also added to a temporary branch named "digitalhearts" which is a QA company two times, one in January and one in June. But none of that now can give us an idea about when the port will be released.

We did get those statements recently :

Quoting: PsyonixAs of right now, we don't have a release date, but we are nearing a release window. However, we still need to polish more, make sure that cross-play properly functions, as well as address remaining bugs.
I'm really sorry for the prolonged delay
Quoting: ValveIt's not released for Mac; both versions are still in the process of going through an intensive QA pass.
They seems positive, but as we still don't have any explanation at all for the delay I don't have much hope.

Worms W.M.D will see a slight delay with the Linux version
14 Jul 2016 at 12:02 am UTC

Quoting: c927776If there is a delay with Linux version it means that Linux version was afterthought which means that original source is optimized for Windows and "port" will be bad as usual.
Not necessary, it could mean that they were in the last part of development but very late and since they didn't want to delay the release they decided to focus on fixing Windows-only issues and doing only testing on Windows to be able to release Windows on date and then be able to release Linux later when enough fixing and testing is done on that platform as well.

Alienware do a pretty nice job of advertising their Steam Machine & SteamOS in this new video

It's just an updated version of the video they released in November. But it's nice they took the time to update it and that they are pushing for the adoption of the Steam Machines.

Ashes of the Singularity still plans Vulkan and Linux & SteamOS support

Quoting: GuestAs I mentioned before, I don't mind this, in fact I think it's something SteamOS is quite useful for.
I don't mind it, either, since a static platform is easier to develop for, and if it will work on SteamOS then it will work on any distro (at least in theory), but the way they say it almost makes it sound like SteamOS isn't Linux, when it actually is.
Well, in fact that does tell us that the open source drivers are not going to be supported.

Beware that if you read this you might realise that there is now very little chance that HL3 ever come out.

Not very reassuring.

Want to benchmark Dota 2 on Linux? Here's how to do it
16 Jun 2016 at 11:24 am UTC

Phoronix tests have "-autoconfig_level 3" in the command line as recommended by Valve (see here [External Link] to have best looking settings every time.
