Here's my own Linux OpenGL vs Vulkan test for Dota 2, not much difference for me

Comparing your test to the test of the guy on the video, your video card is more powerful than a GTX 1080 (same average and better minimum).
The resuls by dubigrasu already show that you can greatly change the results by using another demo :

I'm happy that Phoronix will do those Windows vs Linux Vulkan benchmarks too soon, not that I doubt your abilities but I always prefer someone who's got some experience to do them, at least I would be more incline to make some conclusions about Vulkan on Linux with his results.

You forget to quote the part where they say that they will make a Steam Machine with AMD GPU later this year. It could be interesting, especially we could have cheaper Steam Machines. But obviously they have to wait for AMD drivers to be ready.
Also from an interview of the general manager Frank Azor of Alienware by Polygon (http://www.polygon.com/e3/2016/6/13/11874994/alienwares-new-steam-machine-backpack-vr) :

The Steam Machine has done well, but it didn’t meet the expectations that we all thought it had, we lost a lot of momentum at launch. A lot of the big titles didn’t come over. The gamepad didn’t have as many games optimized for it as we would have liked when it came out. It’s been a very slow ramp up.
The demand dropped for a new operating system, but we still sell it and we’re still investing in it.So Steam Machines are definitely still alive and Alienware is still invested in making it a success.
Things I feel Valve need to address to help SteamOS really be something fantastic

Quoting: liamdaweI agree with wojtek88, this is a great article. I hope some people at Valve read this, because even though we owe them a lot and we still need them, we are not always going to pretend everything is okay when it's not.Quoting: wojtek88Liam, I have to say:Probably one of my favourite comments ever made here...
For the first time your article shows balls.

It's nice when there is an easy communication like that, too often developers just ignore the question or say that they might do it in the future while they have already decided not to do it.

The NVidia drivers on Linux is 90% the same as the one on Windows with the same perfs, so it's not the problem, AMD suck on Linux but you can just avoid AMD until they fix it.
As for OpenGL it can actually be more powerful than Direct3D, why do you thing DOOM is done with OpenGL? And Vulkan was created to beat and destroy DirectX 12, right now Vulkan is already more powerful, but OpenGL is a living proof that you don't simply need a more powerful API, so we'll see.
The problem with myths on Linux is that it doesn't take much to create them but it takes forever to make people realize.

Quoting: maodzedunUntil the terrible performance difference is fixed, they can port the entire Steam library to Linux and it still won't matter. Drivers with equal performance to Windows. Not close, not acceptable, not almost - equal. And getting rid of OpenGL like yesterday. Until there is performance parity between Windows and Linux, nothing else matter. Still, that's a lot of progress compared to 4-5 years ago, I'll give you that. This is a myth. The performance gap you speak of is because ported games are not optimized for Linux as much as they were for Windows. The performance gap was huge on the first AAA games released on Linux because they weren't many tools for optimization, and it's still huge when the games ported are several years old because it doesn't need as much optimization to run decently on recent hardware. But on games with day-1 Linux support the gap is small, and sometime Linux actually beat Windows.

Quoting: KimyrielleWow, I have to admit that I wouldn't have guessed that correctly had anyone asked me what I think is the percentage of top popular games supporting Linux. 80% is pretty darn awesome!Blizzard games aren't on Steam and aren't on Linux (I hope this get fixed one day), so the overall percentage is probably a little less than that if you count World Of Warcraft, Hearthstone and Overwatch.
Next month marks seven years of me running GamingOnLinux, how should we celebrate?

Quoting: AdinimysAbout the game we could play, if we can trust release windows (yeah, trust windows... :P) we may be able to do a Rocket League tournament :DUnlikely, Psyonix are working on an huge patch to be released at the end of June, I don't think they would release the Linux version before that.

Actually Linux has been added to the QA branch for the June patch :

But this isn't the first time :

Hopefully this time is the right one. There is absolutely no chance that they release it before the June patch, so it will be either at the end of June or later.
