Quoting: clelSo the games were already ported in 2002? Why these versions are not available on Steam?

Also I hope that Croteam releases those ports on Steam, if possible, so people can enjoy their games without much effort.
Ports weren't complete, they were struck in beta state.
I think I heard the games could not be completed and the First Encounter one runs way too fast on modern hardware.

Quoting: valguskI think releasing source is much better then official port.
first, you get to polish it for as long as you want
second, you can have android version :D
thrid, remember berserker quake2, quake 2 evolved, tenebrae, darkplaces? well, I can imagine that at least one enhancement like this (might be vulkan) will land here too.
Viva la open source!
While your point is completely valid, it seems that the trend nowadays is towards faithful ports or bug-fixing only developement. But I could be wrong. I hope I am ^_^

Quoting: STiATThat's actually what we'll get. The executable.
The engine's a plus. The executable's a plus. Annoyance would be the assets. Because you're going to have to nab an old disk set or hoodwink Steam into letting you have it on the Linux side, assets-wise to be able to take advantage of this...unless someone were to get a "support gig" that gets an "official" version on Steam and the like.
And what about this [External Link]?

Obsidian and Paradox team up for new RPG called Tyranny and it's coming to Linux

Quoting: GuestAhhh, if only we could get first (or even third) person action RPGs
Actually there's Arx Fatalis by Arkane Studios which engine is FOSS and ported to Linux thanks to Arx Libertatis project (here is the project page [External Link]. Give it a try, it's a (not so anymore) modern take ont the Ultima Underground formula.

Been playing Dying Light and a bit of Hand of Fate. Both great games, worth every penny.

Quoting: EikeA classic RPG with 26 DLCs? :p

No, seriously: That's good news!
As far as Obsidian is concerned, they released 2 actual expansions that were well worth the money - and that shall be mine soon.

Quoting: LinasThis is fakin awesome! I love the old Serious Sam games, and if somebody clever enough is willing to make a Linux version, I am all for it. I wonder if they have source code for the Linux beta version that was published by icculus, if I am not mistaken? It was actually quite close to being finished, and ran mostly ok.
Icculus has already asked for permission:

Quoting: Kuduzkehpanok guys back to reality plz. We didnt lose anything. And we have couple of peoples who uses Linux. We are not even 2nd target customers. And if you really do something then stop blaming companies and start coding somethings for common good. Ofc we want games under our Fav OS without restrictions and so on. But come back to reality.
if there is no linux ports we dont have to pay it. thats the deal for them.
now relax let them do their job. Also think "what i can do for progression gaming on linux"
have fun.
While I agree with you about the fact that the important thing for us Linux users is to get the game ported anyway, I think that we are at a turning point.

Indeed, Linux/StreamOS has a chance to attract many more users right now, but since we know we're not going to get exclusives and we're not going to get the best performance around any time soon, we need at least to get games on time, so that early adopters can consider Linux as a viable platform.

As far as we are concerned, it's not a real problem, but when you think about Linux's market share, it's quite a problem...
