Legends of Eisenwald being ported to Linux by Codeweavers, will use Wine

Yeh OpenGL is very hard to learn because it is real garbage pile. It is fool of junk and dated methods which developers should not ever use. And there are very many dated tutorials witch do not show how you need to use modern OpenGL. I myself now prefer OpenGL ES 2.0 and greater specification. Because they throw out all garbage what where piling up in OpenGL and mad more seance in it. So I do not blame them for not wanting to learn OpenGL from scratch because someone needs to make OpenGL 5 or something totally new library where all the garbage which was piling up all these years are thrown away and are left only those methods witch should be used in modern days.

Quoting: TeodosioI tried it a little bit but is it too much micromanagement?
I think not. Because if you set up all production and supplement right you can totally not manage it any more and focus on trade or war.

Unity3D working on SDL, Wayland and Mir support

Quoting: c3224Unity is working on SDL supprot and SDL includes X11, Wayland and Mir support; Unity guys are too dumb to work on Wayland and Mir directly, so they are not working on Wayland and Mir and your headline is wrong. Mir, Wayland, X11 and other subsystems support in SDL was worked on by SDL developers an community (guys who are not dumb).
kkthnxbye
It is not dumb to not work on things which others are working and share they're work. It is dumb to to work on the same thing witch others are working because you are wasting time and money on things witch is already done and could even work better than your implementation.
In short reinventing the wheel is dumb!

Quoting: AllocWondering about performance though which already seems to be still lacking a bit behind Unity's DX implementation. Would have expected it to be even lower then when "directly" talking to the windowing system (though I actually thought it would more or less talk directly to some OpenGL stuff?) instead of having SDL as an additional layer in between?
It has practically no effect on performance. It has more effect on system stability and usability. Most of the performance is stilt in hands of those who writes OpenGL implementation.

Quoting: cRaZy-bisCuiTBut the ports are native, aren't they? I thought if you need to rewrite the whole engine anyway, it might be possible to get the best performance out of OpenGL that is possible. We could only hope that well optimized Vulkan games will have the same performance as either Vulkan on Windows or an D3DX12 (the syntax is very similar) Vulkan port on linux.
Yes it is possible with a lot of time. Which is not really profitable. Considering there are not too many(percentage wise) people who actually interested in FPS but rather in smooth game-play and smooth game play can be even achieved with 30 FPS it is even more evidently that it is not main focus while porting games. So yes will hope that developers will stop using directx at all ore porting from directx to vulkan will be without big performance loss.

Don't Starve Together has left Early Access

Quoting: ShmerlSo it's Steam only?

UPDATE: Yeah, it is: http://forums.kleientertainment.com/topic/44729-dont-starve-together-roadmap/ [External Link]

Is Don't Starve Together available to non-Steam users?

Don't Starve Together uses a lot of the Steam API's to function, hence, at this time, Don't Starve Together is only available on Steam.
Too bad. Developers shouldn't use this lock-in.
I just don't get it with you dude..... Steam is our best way (and probably only hope) of getting more and good quality games, without Valve we'd still be playing Xbill. There is absolutley nothing wrong with steam! Sure it can be nice to have DRM free games if you wish to install something on the old Craptop which never uses internet, but it's 2016 right?
I think you misunderstood one thing publish game in steam and make game around the steam is two different things. If you use steam api with your game your game it will not work out side of steam. It is same when programmers use Nvidia exclusive api Radeon users will suffer.
I do not think he meant do not publish games on Steam or do not by games on steam he meant do not make steam exclusive games.

Aurion: Legacy of the Kori-Odan, an African Fantasy Action-RPG is coming to Linux

Quoting: PublicNuisanceThe game is already available on pirate sites which I pointed out to them. Their mighty DRM failed them. Shocking, I know.
I actually do not know why no one learns that DRM never boosts sales . If you make pain in the ass DRM then people who usually do not care about DRM like me start to care and do not by the game and hackers still cracks it. If you make low DRM then people like you who care about DRM will not by the game and they still loses money and hackers still will hack the game :O. Either way they will not get those extra sales so why bother and waste time and money on something so useless.

Can you give link to your post about DRM? :D

Quoting: PublicNuisanceSo in response to my inquiry about whether they were planning a DRM free version their response was:

"Hello dear pirates,

We have a lot of respect for the hacker community (yeah we are serious), but if you can just wait that we get at least 250k copies sold before killing the DRM it will be cool for us to make another games.

So why not help us to spread the word by RT and fav all we says on our twitter on the game and we may see what we can do for some free keys maybe."

I'm sure they didn't mean to call those who prefer DRM free games pirates and hackers but they did a poor job of wording it. My response was classy in my eyes.
I actually do not care about DRM free games but DRM have never stopped hackers. Only way I know how to stop hackers from hacking your game is to make game witch no one wants :D
