Personally I buy all Feral titles, whether or not I intend to play those games, but just to support Feral because they're definitely worth it.
If you're having trouble running Imperator: Rome, a patch should hopefully be out next week

With today's patch the game does not start at all.

Starts from the command line if I just run
./imperator on my NVidia box. However if I try to change the screen res it crashes (I tend to play in windowed mode).

Crash on startup, both on NVidia and AMD GPU (w/ Mesa driver for the latter).
Both systems use Debian Buster w/ KDE and French locale.
NVidia system has a GTX 1070 GPU w/ driver 410.104, AMD system has a Radeon 8790M GPU

Looks a lot that Death Rally (the 1996 version, not the shitty 2013 version). BTW the original death rally works like a charm with Steam Play.

Valve's Linux investments is the reason I mainly rely on Steam for my games, regardless of what other stores could offer.
