Software has been a product that has been sold for decades now. I am amazed at what a clusterf**k crowdsourcing and early access is. It's not that hard: lay out a clear roadmap, define what is going to be completed by what time and at what cost, and sell. Instead, people put up flashy videos and concept art about how excited they are about us all making this great game together and they sell shares to people without ever defining what people are actually paying for, and then everyone goes home hurt and disappointed.
Scrap it and start over. Kictstarter and Steam Greenlight and Indiegogo need to shut their doors, hash this out, and re-open when they can manage software development like software development has been handled since AT&T did back in 19freatkn70.

I run SteamOS on my gaming machine. I do have to use the desktop to configure a WINE game or two but mostly it runs as SteamOS. Not with AMD though. With Nvidia, I am perferctly happy with SteamOS.
The Dead Island Linux Port Is Not Being Done By The Orginal Developers

I am quite pleased with Witcher 2 port. I will be happy to see an eON port of Dead Island. I'm not a gaming purist; if I get the convenience of launching and playing a game on Linux without having to jump through wine hoops, I'll galdly pay for that.
I see eON as an easy way for publishers to port to Linux, and a Linux-gaming-training wheel. If we (Linux gamers) keep buying Linux games, then eventually they will either improve eON so much that it really doesn't matter or they will start developing for Linux. We still have a lot to prove, as a market. Before, they wouldn't even talk to us, but now at least there is a conversation.
tl;dr who cares, just take my money and give me Linux games.

So, they advertised a Linux port but didn't actually mean that they would do the port, and yet they also say they don't want volunteers because they believe the port should be paid for? This makes no sense.
The backers at $30 and above should contact indiegogo and file a complaint. Between the tweets and the explicit promise of a Linux port on their own crowdfunding page, this is fraud.

THis is great news. Always happy to hear about old games being ported and sustained. Video games are art, and we usually treat them like fast food containers.

I wish Valve would shift its priorities even further in favor of Linux bugs and releases. That's what it's going to take for SteamOS to succeed. And I want it to succeed.

Good for Mojang. This is a great move. They accomplished much with Minecraft, I hope they use their newfound riches for something open source and cool. And even if they don't, it's gotta feel good te finally cash in.
