GOL Asks: What Have You Been Playing Recently?

Mostly Bridge Constructor and Race The Sun.
Race The Sun is a very addictive racing - arcade game.
And Bridge Constructor.. well, it's all on the name.

Planning to get back to EU4 when I get more time, and to Mount and Blade Warband, which I played so much on Windows. The beta did not work for me, hope the final version does.

Quoting: BeamboomSeriously guys, you NEED to buy this game if so it means installing 64bit Linux on your box. You should have done so long ago anyways :)
Well, I already have it and it runs on Windows, but knowing that in a 64-bit Linux it would run... and with all these new games being ported to Linux.. this could be the day when I :

1) Switch to 64-bit Linux
2) Definitiley forget about Windows. I mean.. X-Com, Civilization V, soon M&B : Warband, perhaps Civilization IV, Crusader Kings II, Europa Universalis IV, soon more games to come from Feral, and others... that's just a dream.

Quoting: drmothReally, one of the major reasons for not running 32-bit is RAM. Even if you have 4GB, your 32-bit system can only read about 3GB of it! Please upgrade people!
I "only" have 2GB of RAM, so, not really necessary for me ;)

I expect that the true percentage of users on 64-bit Linux OS' is easily that value, if not considerably higher.
Thanks for the link !

Quoting: DrMcCoyAlso: I'm actually shocked that there's still so many people running full 32-bit installs. I had thought that pretty much died out around the time I got a 64-bit system...
Think about people like me, who back in 2010 wanted a stable Linux system, went to www.ubuntu.com, read "we recommend the 32-bit version", installed it and had just been updating that same machine since then.
Same here. I even tried to switch to 64-bit, but I had some serious issues so I switched back to 32-bit. I'm not sure now, but as far as I can remember the issues wer with java and flash, which by the time were necessary to me. Anyhow, X-Com will be my new reason to test 64-bit again.

Mount & Blade: Warband Now In Beta For Linux

Do we know if the Linux version will be available on GamersGate ?
I own it on GamersGate, and I could buy it again on Steam to support the developpers for their Linux port, but I'm kind of short of money these times, so...

Quoting: nllaWell, I've been using Ubuntu 64-bit for the last 3 releases with a Sandy Bridge Core i7 and 4GB RAM and it's wonderful. Try Ubuntu 14.04, maybe you'll get a better experience!
I definitely will. Kubuntu 14.04 in my case, but it's almost the same. :)

Quoting: wleoncioHonestly, I'm still trying to understand how come I'm feeling like I'm among a very tiny minority that uses a 32-bit OS
I know. There was a thread in Steam, some guy asked for a 32-bit version of X-Com, and many people told him he was obsolete, and started patronizing him, and making jokes about 16-bit support, etc.
I wonder if there are statistics concerning 32-bit and 64-bit use by Linux users ?
However, I agree that 32-bit should probably slowly fade away, but I can't understand when people say it should have been abandoned long ago, and look down at us 32-bit users.

Quoting: AstroSomething tells me they just couldn't build 32bit binary and that's the end of the story.
And how do yo know that they "just couldn't build 32bit binary" ?

Quoting: AstroIt's pitty I bought this port and supported devs. This port shouldn't cost money. And they're worst of devs I know about.
Worst devs ? Based on what ? And why should this port be free, in your opinion ? I completely disagree, but I would like you to explain that, if you're not just trolling.

Quoting: Linux tayshadyI'm glad that they're not supporting 32bit at this point it's mostly a waste of time.
Well, it depends. You seem to think that only people with 32bit processors use a 32bit distro, which isn't true. We people who still use a 32bit distro on a 64bit processor may be wrong, but my only experience with a 64bit Ubuntu this far was a very bad one. Now I will probably give it a try again, probably replacing my Windows partition, as I haven't been using it for months. So, I personally am sad if they aren't going to support 32bit, even if I can perfectly understand their decision.

Games I would like to see ported to Linux ? Taking a quick look at their Mac game list, the Total war series would be great, really, truly awesome.

And to conclude : Thank you for the port ! and thank you for supporting native ports !

Whatever Happened To Torchlight On Linux? UPDATED
26 Jun 2014 at 12:14 pm UTC

Quoting: DrMcCoyIt seems like I made a mistake there.

It was in the Humble Weekly Sale: Blendo Games, together with Air Forte, Atom Zombie Smasher and Thirty Flights of Loving. The former two also for Linux, the latter one not. Flotilla is apparently firmly in the "not" sections.
Too bad, I was hoping I could play Flotilla on Linux.

Quoting: outofordercc*LURK*.. Did someone mention me?

Dustforce will be available on Linux steam "soon"..

Torchlight has not been forgotten about either. It is on my todo list once another game mentioned here is goes into beta in the next week or so on Mac + Linux..
Thanks for "lurking" here and sharing the info ! :)

About Dr Mc Coy's list, there's something I'm missing... Where did you ever find Flotilla for Linux ? I've checked on GamersGate where I first bought Flotilla, on the developers site (which uses a Humble Widget, despite Flotilla not even being in the Humble Store), on Desura, and obviously on the Humble Store, and no signs of a Linux Flotilla version. I would be very interested to find one, it was a funny little game, but, where did you find it ?
