Aspyr Media Are Teasing A New Launch Tomorrow

Quoting: psymin
Quoting: thelimeydragonBorderlands 1
I'd totally buy it.
i'd buy this one 2-3 times more, although i already own it. gifting Borderlands is just making your game better since as good as Borderlands is, playing Borderlands in coop is even better. and if i support company that ports to linux, this is just pure win-win

update: sad point being it can't be BL1 (unless it would be rumoured remastered edition). Feral already released it on Mac and post says new for Mac & Linux

The Flock Will Only Be Playable For A Limited Time, Releasing For Linux This Year

Quoting: KeyrockThis sounds like a publicity stunt to create a buying frenzy. Only time will tell if said publicity stunt will be successful. I, for one, ain't biting.
if this was a publicity stunt, they failed in my case. lost the interest as soon as i saw forced playing. i buy games and play when i feel to, sometimes i can have some game for years and only then try it. in my case, i'd pay for dead horse

An Awesome Developer Response To A Comment On The Linux Version Being A Waste Of Time
9 Jul 2015 at 9:21 am UTC

Quoting: wolfyrionIf Vulkan proves that is faster/easier/better etc than DirectX 12 then we will have a revolution of Gaming
if Vulkan proves that it runs faster on Linux machines than in Windows then we will have a revolutionary Gaming OS
that won't happen and that is the least of the reason why Vulkan would succeed or fail

the only department where Vulkan has advantage is "easier" due to SPIR-V mantra "write shaders in your favourite language". off course that requires languages to support SPIR-V, but this is much simpler due to SPIR-V being open spec.

as far as faster/better goes. more than probably they will be neck to neck for all the reasons. they are both derived from mantle and most things showed are 1:1 similar.

running faster on one or another platform is also questionable due to games bypassing most (note, this sentence only works with new OS setup). difference is more in how much other crap can you avoid and not get disturbed with low performance. and SteamOS clearly is a winner here, since console like feature guarantees that

last factor you forgot to mention is how large customer base can developer cover by opting for one or another, which makes dx12 really moot since it only runs on win10 and XBoxOne

BioShock Infinite Released For Linux, Thanks To Virtual Programming

Quoting: ZeitgeistCan someone please compare the performance of windows vs. the wrapper? I'm still waiting to finish Bioshock 1, but not on windows.
why would you care about windows vs. linux performance? as long as it plays with vsync, i couldn't care less if windows had 24534656547667fps

it is old game without gl support originally, performance will be worse than on windows. wrapper takes its toll too.

performance will only matter in games where engine supports both... unless it is unity and gl sucks balls there by default

Spec Ops: The Line Looks Like It's Coming To Linux

Quoting: SabunThis is an Unreal Engine 3 game correct? If I'm not wrong, these developers are also developing Dead Island 2 using Unreal Engine 4.

I wonder if this is them testing the Linux waters, much like Techland did with Dead Island before Dying Light.
i doubt, UE3 had no GL/Linux support, while UE4 has it by default. at least as a coder my self i couldn't see this as worthwhile experiment. all the data you get is meaningless in their next venture

it is probably port because they want to do it

Why Are We Still Dual Booting?
12 Mar 2015 at 11:58 pm UTC

i think my answer will be most original ever.

because i need 2 different Linux distros? my main in 99% of the time and SteamOS to fiddle with from time to time where I think virtualizing it wouldn't provide even close to full picture of how it works? ;)

Feral Interactive Are Behind The Batman: Arkham Knight, GRID Autosport And Company Of Heroes 2 Linux Ports

You mean DC; not Marvel.
correct. my bad

Feral Interactive Are Behind The Batman: Arkham Knight, GRID Autosport And Company Of Heroes 2 Linux Ports

Quoting: GuestI’ll get GRID and Mordor, not sure about the other two as I don’t know anything about them.

Edit: assuming they work under Linux and not only SteamOS and Ubuntu, of course, because I don’t plan on using any of those two distros.
well, as far as batman was so far, if you like concept of Mordor, just replace fantasy universe from Tolkien to Marvels universe of Gotham

as far as CoH2, good RTS like any other. i don't like them the least, but i'll probably end up buying it anyway in hope of future something else more according to my taste. other 3, i'm buying because i want them.

now, Feral bring the TR and Hitman

@MightyTrollzor

it does support 4.1. problem would be how many old OSX releases do they want to support. AFAIK, those were never updated with newer core profile

Dying Light Major Patch Released, Performance Finally Okay On Linux (UPDATED)
11 Mar 2015 at 4:10 am UTC

why do i think that all the people that got it working now just got over threshold of cpu bottlenecking to the next level?

especially the... no change on resolution or settings is suspicious and the fact that people with same cpus say same things while gpu seems to not play any special role or at least nowhere near as it should. these are most obvious signs when cpu is bottlenecked.

can anyone with problems check core utilization? usually in this case one core should be 100% non stop

i plan on buying it if i was correct, my cpu is more than good enough it seems. still, they better fix this

Steam Hardware Survey For February 2015
9 Mar 2015 at 4:10 am UTC

Quoting: fraghopperI don't know if I ever got any kind of survey, either at install or otherwise. I thought by 'survey' the article meant that Steam surveys the hardware bing used to download games, in the background.
nope, you get presented by questionaire you can opt in or out

i got it on wine few times, never on Linux. even though wine accounts as less than 10% of my gaming.

it even went as far as me seeing survey, pressing cancel and starting linux client with no survey... ahh, well close and start wine >>>>> survey again, repeat that once more with the same result

i still think survey on linux is some sort of spooky tale
