The Steam Hardware Survey for October 2018 shows a small drop for Linux, a look at daily and monthly active users

Quoting: ExpalphalogI'm not sure what triggers it. I had a survey pop up a few weeks ago and hadn't change a darn thing.
Well, I got mine few months ago when I didn't change anything, just restarted steam.

Now when all but hard drives changed, I didn't get it.

That survey thing is weird, shouldn't it notice if hardware changes?
Yesterday I got new PC and I did just put my old hard drives in it, fixed bootmanager, started using it and steam didn't pop up that survey.

What are you playing this weekend and what do you think about it?

Planned to play Rust whole weekend but it crashes all the time.

Quoting: JarnoOh, you nicely skipped what I told earlier.
On how you pirate games? No I didn't skip that, I'm aware you feel entitled to the works of others and make excuses for it. Not having a demo is not an excuse. All I see is the usual excuses.

If you want a game, that normally costs money - pay for it. If it's not on your platform, that doesn't mean shit, you're still in the wrong.

We have mostly open rules about commenting here, but openly talking about how you pirate games, when we're a minority platform trying to get more games, is extremely counter-productive. Stop.
If its just an excuce, how in the hell I have bought those games from steam?

Edit: Oh, I just figured it out that I have bought Commandos game series 2 times and its only for windows.

Quoting: liamdaweAt GOL, we firmly believe you should support developers if you intended to use their software, regardless of it natively supporting Linux or not. The fact is, if you're "pirating" it to play it in Wine, you should really still be buying it. You're not entitled to anyone's work for free if they require a purchase for it.
Without going deep on this discussion, I just want to point out that pirates (crackers, actually) do a valuable service for Linux gamers: they strip DRM-infested games of those diseases, and usually do other stuff too, like removing inconveniences like spyware (e.g. redshell), or the need to stay online / log in to steam. Many games would not even run in wine if there is no such people to work that out. As Liam said, though, paying a developer for its work is a moral obligation, there is no running from that. DRM and spyware are not moral too.
Also, not all cracked games comes to available to majority or normal users. You can easily find all scene cracked games with http://predb.me/?search=linux [External Link] (as titles only, that site doesn't give .torrent links) but still, not all of those comes to .torrent or such. Piracy is not rly that big of a thing if you ask me (what comes to pirating linux games), its just a small percentage of a games which comes to downloadable to normal users.

Quoting: jensPlease grow up. It doesn't matter at all what you do with the game. If you use it for whatever purpose you'll have to pay, anything else is theft/piracy or what you prefer to call it.
Unauthorized copy. Or piracy.
But it is not theft. There is no subtraction. Even if it is a crime, it is a different crime.
Tired response? Yeah, for a tired argument.
Well, in here where I live it isn't even crime to download.
Not a crime perhaps in certain countries, but ethical or even moral? That's a different story.

Yes, but we should only pay if the hard work is made by the developer...
No, you should pay if you play it.
I might get lots of hate, but I don't think that developers want my money if they don't offer version for my operating system.
Solution: Don't play it.
I do play some of those, I just don't pay. If we are so small minority that they don't bother to deliver their games for us, they shouldn't bother if they don't get money from us.

I mainly pay for it, dont get me wrong. 99% of my pirated game collection is games that I have bought from steam and I dont like that some ppl are seeing pirating as a way to play games for free. Also, it isn't nice to call someone indirectly as a non grownup.

You know how many times I heard from publishers/developers when discussing Linux ports...
"Linux users dont pay for their software anyway" ?

Well done. You're reinforcing that stereotype.
I don't know, tell me?
Oh, btw. I have registered only half life 1 from steam when I used windows (it was time when they didn't have store, only register/download thing), but now I have ~150 games which has linux support.

Thats fine.. you dont get to play it in that case... doesnt give anyone the right to steal it (spare me the lecture about how piracy is not theft)
Tbh, I pirate LOTS of games but my main reasons are: No demo versions and other one is that cracked have stripped DRM.
On the other hand, I don't even remember when I played pirated version (more than few hours or so) bc I find it very nice that we have solutions like steam with all its friends things, updates etc.

What comes to pirated windows games, I play those like once in a year or two so I don't rly think that I'm doing much of a harm for game industry.
