The name Mono hasn't aged well, I could imagine CoronaGame wouldnt be too popular either. Corona Beer sales probably aren't too hot either.
I'll beat the dead horse a little too -- stigmatized names like Gimp are going to sound offputting to donors. This isn't hard.
I wish them well with their efforts to transform and safeguard their ethos and values.

Halo: The Master Chief Collection multiplayer seems broken on Steam Deck

I could play MCC every day for a decade and have fun -- but when I don't know if I'm going to have the whole thing come crashing down and break, additional new obnoxious microsoft account logins, hard-anti-cheats, etc... I am sick of being poked and prodded. I just end up playing CounterStrike instead because it's easy and reliable, and with CS2 around the corner and in beta now it's not like I'm a choosing beggar.
Thanks everyone who puts a word in, I DO want to see them sort this out real soon. Here's to hope ^.

Quoting: steamdeckguyBRUHExactly, reasons like this are why I don't play Halo daily anymore. Microsoft needs to step up their game and not be so nepotistic.
I bought MCC for my steam deck back in February when it was broken. Played through a couple of campaigns then uninstalled.
You mean to tell me THE EXACT SAME DAY I decide to check on the status of multiplayer and redownload after hearing that it was fixed in April, that it breaks again???
WTF

Bummer, good thing I haven't got sucked into their mcc deck multiplayer again for fear of this very possibility.
I hope their goodwill is plain, and we see them fix it very soon.
I bet a lot of their customers have decks, we'll see if they are enough to wake the lion up to do something.

This gives me fuzzy feelz.
Also, the modern proverb: `Fuck around and find out` rings the bell.
During these dark times, it's very heartwarming to find hope in these exemplars.
May we all be like them too and say no to tyranny, and tyranny disguised as civility aswell.
There's no place for tyranny in our free world.

Congratulations Valve & Steam. I have that ugly puke green for my Steam Deck controller and my KDE theme and it's incredibly charming and fun.
It makes me feel like I am playing on a Aperture Science or Black Mesa Research Facility computer from another age when in desktop mode.
The perfect companion. Love it.

Hmm "TLC 3D"
IIRC TLC (3 tri) was the good one over QLC (4 quad). I can't remember if 3D was the good one or the bad one, but 2230 considered, it's not like there are many options.
Edit:
I own WD, Sabrent, and Corsair NVMEs in all my Linux rigs and so far I prefer the sabrents -- they were ahead when Gen4 came out, their prices were competitive vs others and their enclosures were made in the usa, I'ved owned many NVME enclosures and build quality varies widely -- but having a sturdy all aluminum case is a big sell.
Anyways here's Sabrents 2230 2TB: https://sabrent.com/products/sb-213q-2tb [External Link]
I am not sure if there are wattage considerations brand to brand but I did buy their 3x 1TBs for various Steam Decks as gifts.
I would try this WD product, but IIRC my last 3D WD was kindof meh but maybe that's because it was a gen out of date, not totally sure, and I think always wise to compare review scores and try to filter out bot reviews at reviewmeta to get a better idea of what's actually good and what's shilled harder.
Either way, I'm not complaining to have new options -- I think 2230 for SteamDeck, hobby and eventually phone will be a big deal so the faster it gains ground the better.
Edit 2:
Really makes me reconsider owning (Western Digital) HGST 7200rpm drives -- I don't like it when my companies have sleezy business habits.

While their actual press release didn't mention the Steam Deck, and focused more on the ROG AllyOh wow. Yeah not a good look.
the 1TB is only available direct from WD and for now the 2TB model is exclusive to Best Buy.Gross. My mojo can only take so much disappointment. Yeah the 2TB is the only model i'd be interested in, and that's a HUGE deal-breaker.

More teasers appear for upcoming Valve hardware

I suspect the VR reality is the same, it may take 1 or 2 years more before they have chips that can deliver the minimum resolution & framerate.
To the guy commenting on Valve taking on Apple VR too, I really don't think Valve sees themselves as competing with Apple, but I suspect the notion was tounge & cheek ;P

Quoting: spacemonkeyThe Steam Deck has awesome performance, but for portable VR (like the Quest) we need 3664x1920 resolution and at least 72fps.Exactly. During Deck R&D videos they commented that they wanted to do Deck for a while but technology wasn't where they needed it to be to make it feasible until post 2020/2021.

I'm the guy who predicted Deckard when Steam Deck launched simply using logical observance, deduction, and considering the hardware achievements of Valve. Steam Link -> Steam Controller -> Steam VR Controllers -> Index VR Headset -> Steam Deck ... Deckard.
I agree with @mad_mesa ^^^ my best guess is that it's a Steam Deck Episode I ;P Steam Deck Episode II or maybe Steam Deck 1.5.
Valve was very cautious making Steam Deck and wasn't even sure how popular or much of a market it would draw. I think they are pleasantly surprised, hardware contracts are probably expiring and the available chips on the market may be changing -- and they may be keen to do some minor hardware upgrades.
Prediction:
A. They will do away with the glossy screen entirely -- and go to Etched Glass.
B. They will upgrade the joysticks to be more wear resistant
C. Bigger Battery / Better battery life.
D. They might bump the resolution to 1920x1200 (Although I have no personal problem with the 1280x800.
E. OLED screen to conserve more power and for brighter use in daytime spaces (bus stop, etc...)
F. Thinner screen bezel. (that black boxy border around the screen)
G. Slightly smaller size (Similar to how the original Xbox had those big controllers at first and then the next iteration was more refined and slightly smaller)
H. Next Bump up of the CPU/GPU -- it would most likely be very similar.
I. More RAM.
J. More accurate touch screen.
K. And obviously -- better Wifi Module (Steam Deck v1 Wifi Module doesnt play nice with all routers and was a PITA requiring reflashing from recovery4.img and on all my 5 decks)
L. Oh, and of course all the NVME would get bumped up to the faster speed, 64bg would be replaced by 128GB, 256GB, 512GB and 1TB options (as 1TB 2230 NVME is a thing now, technically 2TB is aswell, however they usually skip a generation of top tech to keep costs affordable.)
I would really be curious to see them shrink it by 10% or 15%.
It would be a total banger too if as part of their new WIFI they made it possible to do 4-8 player LAN over WIFI without a router with 1 of the decks acting as the "hot-spot".
I could EASILY see Steam Deck parties where PC gamers get together and LAN in person on the couch, this is a space that is untapped and dripping with maple syrup.
Oh and lastly, improved CPU/GPU cooling.

I'd say I'm still cautiously optimistic.
Considering the improvements to WINE/PROTON, DXVK over the last few years I'd say the win32 wall has come down pretty well.
As long as we keep gaining share, and even have people Experience Linux I'd call that winning.

Quoting: EikeTo all those saying that Proton will lead to more native ports one day by raising the Linux user percentage...Considering this: https://www.gamingonlinux.com/2023/09/linux-continues-rising-above-3-desktop-user-share-on-statcounter/
It's not only that most Linux users stopped asking for ports.
Ten years ago, we had Windows users actively speaking out against Linux ports.
Quoting: quotI wish companies would start announcing official Proton support. I honestly would trust the stability of that more than most native Linux builds.Nowadays, we got Linux users actively speaking out against Linux ports.
That's why I'm pessimistic.
