Those prices... I understand companies need to make money, but none of those are priced to actually make someone think twice before purchasing an XBone or PS4.
The best looking one IMO is the iBuyPower SBX. It happens to be the cheapest at $460. The Syber one @ option A seems to be the best bang for buck out of these @ $499 but it is still very underwhelming parts wise.
AMD FM2 mother board - $60
AMD Athlon x4 840 - $70-80?
AMD R7 250x - $80
4gb DDR3 - $35
500gb 2.5 hdd - $43
Case+PSU+misc - $70
So 350-380 in parts @ retail. So I guess the price isn't too bad considering it is pre-built and possibly a decent warranty. But, I have a hard time believing that 250x with only 1gb of vram is going to play any better than any of the current consoles (it may actually be worse) and then it costs more. This is a problem.
I think the big problem here compared to XBone and PS4 is that the people making these have to make a profit on them. MS and Sony can sell theirs as a loss leader. Segata is right. Valve needs to produce these themselves for either 0 profit or even at a bit of a loss.
EDIT* I didn't even take into account the horrible Linux driver situation for the AMD GPUs either. Not looking too good!

Quoting: GuestTorchlight II have better performance in Linux than Windows, it loads much faster and i get more FPS. Glorious port.Agreed! @ 1080p it seems to be running really well. I have "crazy" specs so it is hard to say if the port is good or bad. I however, am nearly positive that an amazing GOL headline article is incoming though. :D

I've purchased Torchlight II. I'm certainly excited about some of the others (S.O.M., Batman and GRID especially) but I wont be paying a dime until the GOL crew says they are available and running well.
EDIT* well.. i'll buy the batman game when it comes out regardless. Love that series.

Quoting: liamdaweThat sums it up nicely lol. I had no intentions on drinking this evening but I think this news is very deserving of a good pint of the local (to my US state) IPA in my kegerator right now! *cheers*
Pretty much this.

Awesome news! This just might be the most awesome week of the year in terms of gaming. Now if everyone could just port their games from the crappy Unity to UE4 "that'd be great"

Quoting: tuubiThe target audience hardly includes grumpy nerds who have not bought a pre-assembled computer since the Amiga 500.I lol'd pretty hard at that statement.. I'm the same way. The only "pre-assembled" I've ever purchased are my laptops for obvious reasons ;)

I still have not had the chance to try out any of the VR devices out there. I am certainly curious, but with what I expect something like this to cost I don't think I'll ever be able to just order one without having tried it or there is no cost to me to return it within a couple of weeks if I figure out I don't like it. I hope that Best Buy or one of the other electronics chains setup a demo unit in the near future. I suspect if anyone will do a fantastic job at making one of these devices it will be Valve.. lets just hope this hardware doesn't suffer from "Valve time" ;)
Speculation: Shadow Of Mordor Appears In A Seemingly Linux Focused App Bundle On SteamDB

Quoting: melkemindI'm probably going way out on a limb here, but we might as well ride this hype train as far as it will take us.
Shadow of Mordor uses a modified version of Monolith's Lithtech Jupiter EX engine. It is conceivable that Monolith could port the engine to Linux. After all, it wouldn't be the first time [External Link].
Monolith is a subsidiary of WB, so if the engine were ported, we could possibly see even more games that use the engine ported as well. It might be a long shot, but we're all smoking optimism on this hype train. Right?
