GOG plan to look a bit closer at Linux through 2026

In my experience, Heroic is so effortless and versatile that I don't think I'd use Galaxy even if it had native Linux support.

Talking point - what have you been playing lately?

After spending most of this year gaming on my desktop, I've finally returned to the Steam Deck OLED and "fixed" the awful static issue the 3.5mm jack had on a lot of launch models by slightly loosening the screws holding down the audio board. So to fully make use of a static-free headphone jack, I've been relaying Furi.

Banging soundtrack and an overall exhilarating game. I'm about halfway through and love it just as much as I did the first time round many years ago.

I haven't abandoned my PC completely though and have been making my way through Two Point Hospital. Another game with a fantastic soundtrack (though for wildly different reasons) and it's generally a relaxing time. I'm currently at the Tumble hospital and my receptionists keep whining about needing to go to the toilet despite the overwhelming amount of toilets I build for them, but it's otherwise going smoothly.

The Logitech G305 Lightspeed Wireless mouse is a great reasonably priced pick

I wish Logitech still produced the G600. I got into WoW Classic at the beginning of the year and consequently picked up a cheap Redragon MMO mouse. I've since stopped playing WoW but man, I just can't go back to mice with just a couple of side buttons. Even in non-MMO games, I just rebind everything to my mouse and just use the keyboard for movement basically.

I ended up upgrading to the Corsair Scimitar but I'm wary of the build quality. Many people say the scroll wheel dies quickly, and even now after a few weeks the left click has this weird creak to it.

By the sounds of it, many saw the G600 as the gold standard but they stopped making it. I loved the G502 years ago, and still have a G305 in reserve.

Epic and Steam banned it but HORSES is out now on other stores

Quoting: amataiIf I understand the situation correctly, their game got rejected not because it was disturbing (that is non issue for Steam) but because of illegal content.
Either it is in good faith, and they should apologize, either it is a marketing stunt and the press, GoL included, should not play along uncritically, [edit: no offence intended. I don't want to be rude, of course Liam is king on how is media is run].
They did "apologize" in a sense; they amended the scene so that it contained no children. But Valve refused to reevaluate the game.

The thing is, assuming the scene is the same as it was in that build submitted to Steam except the character in question was a child, it still wouldn't be illegal or CSAM or whatever. The game is very overtly making a point about how regressive views of sex are often instilled by parents and institutions to the overall detriment of everyone. There's nothing inherently sexual about that scene whether the character exists as an adult or a child.

Steam for ChromeOS Chromebooks is being killed off

I haven't owned a Chromebook since way before this beta released so it was never something I looked at. The last I heard about it was when Proton.DB added a section for it, but I've only ever seen 2 game reports, both for TF2, which while not a perfect barometer for its popularity does suggest it wasn't a hit.

Everything Google touches when it comes to gaming just ends up disappointing or dead. I tried the "Google Play on PC" thing back when I used Windows and it had Clash Royale along with a hundred P2W games no one in their right mind would play ever, let alone on a desktop. Stadia's gone, and now this.

Smash-hit drug sim Schedule I plans full Steam Deck support, will use the Steam Deck as the "performance benchmark"

I spent a few hours with the demo this week and it could definitely do with some optimisation. With a 4070 + 5600x, I was getting dips below 60 at 1080p.

Valve's in-development Deadlock gets a huge map overhaul

This sounds incredible. I haven't played for months, but even back then, it was clearly something very special, though the fact it stuck so tightly to the conventions of Dota meant I eventually quit. The change to minion xp in particular is one of the things that makes Heroes of the Storm so much more appealing to me.

And sure, HotS is the casual, smaller game in the genre, but in my opinion it's the best one, because it really streamlined a lot of systems other MOBAs have.

Toy soldier FPS battleground Mini Royale releases in March

Looks interesting. I'll get in early since as you say, the likelihood of any online game sticking around is slim. And since The Finals has been a complete mess on Linux for the last 2 weeks, I'm definitely looking for the next game in this area.

Free to play Marvel Rivals is out now on Steam and works on Steam Deck / Linux (Steam Deck has issues though)
6 Dec 2024 at 2:15 pm UTC

Experimental fixes the black screen, but my game sorta crashes if I try to accept the terms of use. "Assertion failed" it says, with the music still playing but the whole application seizes up.

Edit: I seem to got it running. I ran Protontricks and chose Marvel Rivals, then "Install a Windows dll" and selected vcrun2022 and repaired it.

Steam Beta gets fixes for WiFi on Steam Deck, plus AMD GPU startup crash on Desktop

Not specifically related, and I don't even think this is a thing Valve could fix, but it's infuriating how my Deck refuses to connect to any of my mesh nodes bar one, which sits in a room as far away as possible from anywhere I play my Deck.
