Man, I loved the Last Stand games back in the day. As with all Flash games, they were pretty barebones, but it nailed the horror tone in what was a very simple tower defence-ish game.

I know with the final Flash game in the series they tried to do some RPG story thing, so I'm interested to see how a non-Flash iteration of the series turned out.

Last Epoch drops the Native Linux version, devs tell players to use Proton

I agree with everything you've said here. I know some people are very firm in supporting native versions so to pull the rug on it in this fashion sucks.

That said, in my experience, native versions are unfortunately almost always worse: missing features, worse performance, slower updates etc.

Deadlock surpassed 100,000 concurrent players, Valve adds wall jumping

I do get a strong sense Valve have hit gold here. The community hype behind it is something I haven't personally seen since the first Overwatch beta.

In it's "early access" stage with no ranked mode or anything, it also kinda feels like a throwback to a time where you played online games exclusively because they were fun, not for the ladder climb or battle pass etc. That'll change on full release obviously, but it's a nice sight for now.

Deadlock from Valve no longer a secret - store page is up and we can finally talk about it

Quoting: NarcotixWait… VALVe has an official discord? Anyone can help me find it? Maybe it’s just me being miserable at searching stuff online, but somehow I can’t find it.
Valve have an official Deadlock Discord server, not a general one. Unless it changed last night when they made this announcement, you need to be invited to the game to get into the server.

Valve attempts to deal with jokes, memes and ASCII art reviews on Steam

Massive difference. I've eschewed looking at Steam reviews for years due to how many of them are just awful. I'm glad they put that toggle there just so I can remind myself how dreadful the review section was before this change.

Now all the "no one will see this so I'll just say I'm gay" award baiting reviews will actually not be seen by anyone.

Same here. The only game it's affected for me so far was Elden Ring, and sometimes it randomly did work as intended.

The Capcom Summer 2024 Humble Bundle is another great deal

Seems weird not to include Dead Rising 1 given all the rest are there. Then again, maybe not so surprising given the remaster is out next month, which I'm really looking forward to if only for the updated controls. Using guns in that game is painful.

I couldn't quite gel with DR2, which I think was in part due to Chuck being such a nothing protagonist. DR1 is campy and self aware, which I found was replaced by sheer abundance with DR2, which is a fine change, but Chuck doesn't suit either game. He's just boring. Off The Record sounds appealing just for that tbh.

Fixed a bug that caused widespread crashing with Xwayland games.
Exactly what I was hoping to see. I switched over to Nobara from Mint (and thus Wayland from X11) and was getting constant crashing in Kunitsu Gami. "Solved" the problem by using X11, but with this I'll be able to go back to Wayland.

Yeah, audio is busted for me too, and this is using Lutris. Weirdly, if I run it with Proton 9, the audio is fixed, but I get no visual output at all.

Team Fortress 2 gets a Summer Event Update, new comic on the way

Quoting: scaineHow are 100K people still playing this? Or are the numbers actually a true-er reflection of just bad the bot problem has actually become?
I don't think a game gets this big for this long after release without being as good as it is, to give the glib response. The bots a certainly part of that number, but coming from my experience, TF2 has the all the mechanical depth you'd ever want for one who wants complexity, but the simplicity and low skill floor for those who want a casual mess around.

Also from my experience, a lot of these players are people who also played it 15 years ago and never fully stopped. Every few years I hop back into it and see many similar faces. The reliance on community servers helps retention too in a way.
