Cleared Hot is everything you could want in a modern twin-stick helicopter shooter

Quoting: F.UltraNote that this is not the old Microprose from Sid Meier fame. This is an Australian individual that bought the rights to the Microprose logo in 2018. The last original Micropose studios closed shop in 1999 and the brand/ip have travelled through Spectrum HoloByte, Hasbro Interactive, Infogrames, Atari Interactive, Cybergun Group, Tommo and then finally to David Lagettie from Australia who AFAIK only bought the name and not the IP.
Interesting! I didn't know that. Thanks.

The Drifter is easily my new favourite point and click adventure

I have finished the game last weekend and totally agree, The Drifter is an absolute highlight! It's one of the most interesting games I have played recently. There were only one or two situations where I lost patience; but for most of the time, the story was really gripping and kept me hooked. The fantastic voice acting definitely has its fair share why this game is so great and really brings it to life. I also really like how the game is divided into chapters and the player can always choose to continue playing or ending the game after a chapter. That really helps picking the game up again after finishing a chapter and closing the game down. Like a novel that one puts aside after finishing a chapter. Oh, and in one of the levels, the soundtrack has a strong The Dig vibe- absolutely loving it! ^^

Xfce 4.20 desktop released with experimental Wayland support
17 Dec 2024 at 7:10 pm UTC

Do you use Xfce? If so, why do you use it and not others like KDE and GNOME?
Xfce has been my favourite desktop for years and I'm still using it on my desktop PC. However, I've installed KDE Plasma on my new laptop and have to say that I really like it! In fact, I have come to like it so much that I plan to change to KDE Plasma on my desktop PC as well.

I may check Xfce4 out again when wayland support has been properly implemented.

Hard pass.
This!

I would have bought this game instantly on release because I still consider it one of the best games -- if not the best game -- I've played. But given that all Rockstar games now require another user account, I'll pass as well.

Battlefield 1 gets EA anticheat in September - will be left broken on Steam Deck / Linux

Quoting: MohandevirLet's just hope Microsoft end up locking them out of kernel access, just to make this a complete waste of time and money, for EA.
Yeah, it's funny how we have pretty safe operating systems by moderns standards for mobile devices, but people still install this kind (kernel-mode [...]) of software on their PC's.

Anyway, I'm personally pretty chill about it. Another game to uninstall, more space for others. I already own more games than I will ever be able to play in my life, so this news doesn't bother me much.

Plasma 6 lands in Arch Linux, KDE neon teething issues and Plasma 6.1 heating up

If you aren't using KDE PIM (Kmail and etc.) try to disable Akonadi server - it eats a ton of RAM for something you might not use.
Thanks Shmerl, but the service isn't running on my system. It's no big deal, really. I was just astonished that the system at times uses ~ 2GB of RAM when there's not much going on.

Plasma 6 lands in Arch Linux, KDE neon teething issues and Plasma 6.1 heating up

I made the change this weekend, ditched Gnome and installed Plasma 6 instead on my Framework laptop. The Gnome group seems to have a more sane selection of packages, but that's of course a Arch Linux thing. Also, Plasma 6 takes up quite some noticeable amount of RAM at times, even though the system is idling. Other than that I quite like it. There are a couple features that I really like, for example the Flatpak integration into the system settings. It's snappy, it runs smooth and I haven't encountered any problems so far. But then again, I don't use the laptop for heavy lifting.

Oh yeah, and I really like the floating panel(s) and how they can be configures to automatically hide when a window goes full screen.

I'll stick with Plasma 6 for the time being. I may check Gnome again when they implement fractional scaling. But for now, I'm happy with this new Plasma release.

The future has arrived - KDE Plasma 6 desktop released
28 Feb 2024 at 7:20 pm UTC

I've always been a GTK guy myself, my favourite desktop still is Xfce. But when I got myself a new laptop I went with all the new stuff, including Wayland. So far I've been running Gnome and while it isn't bad, I'm not entirely happy with it either. But what annoys me most with Gnome is that it still has no proper fractional scaling out of the box.

I will give KDE Plasma 6.0 a try on this new laptop just for the fractional scaling alone and am really looking forward to this new release. I have to admit, I also really like Plasma's standard Breeze theme. Who knows, maybe I'll learn to like a new desktop environment after all these years I've been using Linux now.
