@Crystal Dagger: they are pieces of art, so it's not only Your opinion :D.

Why Linux games often perform worse than on Windows

Bacause of bad ports in some cases they can be called "parasites", when in other cases we can call them "symbionts" :). For my rig it's not difference between 60-80 fps, but between playable 40 and unplayable 20. I hope Feral is still learning how to make good ports and every next game from them will performance better. Of course I'm happy to play "SoM", but I'll always ask them to make ports better. Funny case - about month ago I bought 'GTX780 Ghz Edition' from my friend (for ab. 50$ - yyyeah :) ), it's a monster when compared to my former GTX750. Almost no change in 'Tomb Rider' (24 fps in some areas). I know I have sh...ty CPU, but come on - no difference? 'X-Rebirth', 'War Thunder' started to work on high settings without problem - I'dont know if they are ported ("semi-native" ) or "native", but Linux versions of them are made by game devs, I think.

Some of my coworkers have Macs at home, and they complains they have too weak Macs for gaming, but they don't want to buy Windows PC (they just hate Windows :)). Some of Windows users don't like their system too. How could I convince them to play on Linux, knowing that the best option for gaming now is Windows? I convinced one buddy to use Linux, and U know why? Because he started to play with Blender and Blender works better on Linux (however GPU computing is slightly faster on Windows - Nvidia drivers). If quality of ports/versions (call it what U want) won't be better, Linux gamers community will grow very slow, or won't grow at all when compared to Windows gamers, as they don't have real choice. So - however I'm glad to see more linux games, I'd like to see more really polished games. They can be rewritten, ported or even wrapped as long as they'll work as good as on Windows. Ok, personally I can play with 80% of Windows performance. But no less. Or - if game works with 50% of its possible performance, I'll buy it for 50% of full price. I don't care about DRM-free, GOG versions - after all most games we play are all proprietary.

Of course correct me if I'm wrong.

Oh, and if its not off-topic: how good (or bad) is games performance on decent Macs? Some time ago I've installed 'Elite: Dangerous' on old Mac Pro - on medium settings fps was good, but game looks horrible. I'm just curious...

Looks like VR support for Linux will be shown off at SteamDevDays this week, about time

Another interesting point in SDD program is "Building Unity Games for SteamOS/Linux".

Steam now has above 2,500 Linux & SteamOS games available

@Kimyrielle: War Thunder. It's MMO game and it's very good. However I would like to see SW:TOR on Linux... ;)

EVERSPACE, the amazing looking space shooter should be on Linux before the end of September

@Keyrock: yes, U can switch between 1st/3rd person view. That's why I'm waiting for this game - only noobs fly and fight in 3rd person mode :D. I hope it will be possible to look round inside ship using mouse.

GOG withdraw their statement about The Witcher 3 never planned for Linux, they have no idea

@Stupendous Man: hey man - X (X3, XR) games have linux ports for quite long time, and they never been cancelled :D.

What have you been playing recently and how is it?

After some discussion in "Total War..." thread, I played "getting out Windows partition". Awesome game, short and easy, but funny as hell, now I have nice backup disk :D . Then, according to STiAT recommendation I played "Shadow Of Mordor" and - indeed - it works quite well. Slaughtering orcs in different ways is sweet. I've tried "X-Plane 10" demo, but all I can see is Phantom cockpit, runway and endless sea all around - maybe I should try some seaplane. I played it only as curiosity - I prefer combat sims (we have half-sim in War Thunder, I miss "IL2-Sturmovik" series or "Rise Of Flight" ). Then I run FsUAE and old "Alien Breed" and "Traps'n'Treasures". FsUAE is amazing piece of soft, U can even hear sound of Amiga FDD working. And, for a while, played "Shadowrun: Dragonfall" (brilliant game), "Strike Suit: Zero" (too hard for me), and "Tomb Raider" (beauty but poor performance). So - even without Windows - there's no room for players boredom :D

PS.: @Hyperdrive - SOMA is one of best games I've played ever. Storyline is... just terrifying (in a good sense of course).

Total War: WARHAMMER is still coming to Linux, being ported by Feral Interactive

@ajgp
Perfectly clean, but i5 4670k vs. Phenom II X4 makes huge difference - in my case between playable/unplayable.

@edddeduckferal
Ok, I'll do it, however i tried different in-game graphical options, with no success. Of course with my PC I don't expect smooth gameplay with 'ultra' or even 'high' settings, but 'normal' would be nice.
Maybe the best and final solution is to completely wipe out Windows partition and stop comparing :)

Ok, I must admit: 'Life Is Strange' works very well.

Thankfully i’m not fan of Total War nor WH series, cause i don’t believe Feral make this port good. Even as NVIDIA card user, I can accept (barely) 20% - 30% performance drop but not 50% as it is with Tomb Raider. And I prefer 5 good ports than 20 poor. No offence Feral, but thanx, not this time ;)
