I agree with Wojtek. Present state of Linux gaming disappoints me a little. Especially performance issues when compared to Windows versions of games we already have. I know - drivers, OpenGL, etc.
I don’t have modern gaming rig, but I know that some games I have (especially wrapped „Witcher 2”, „BS:I” - I simply hate all that Eon/Wine idea) will run far better with Win installed on my machine, than with Linux. Most wanted by me Linux port is Elite: Dangerous, but I’m afraid that I won’t be able to play it on my computer, when WIndows version runs smoothly with middle settings.

Lets imagine we have „Star Citizen” native client now, which is very resource hungry game: how many of U buy overpowered rig only to play it on Linux with awareness U are using about 60% of Your machines potential power?

I love Linux, and I love gaming on it, but it needs more time and work to be recognized as real gaming platform. I hope it will happen in not so distant future. And I wish it to all of us with upcoming New Year :)

Major Engine & Content Update To The MMO War Thunder

I didn't notice any changes after patch, maybe because I can't play WT:Ground Forces on max settings. Funny thing: after patch release many of players (including me :)) shoot at random buildings - not one of it was destructible. I've been little disappointed but i haven't notice any fps drop so it's plus. People on WT forum complains - they have massive fps drops after 1.53. Next funny thing: it seems that efficiency drops only with DX not OpenGL... Am I malignant? Not at all... maybe a little :D

You both guys (liam, wojtek) should give a try WT. Its a great game, one of the best on Linux. Airplanes are quite funny (far better than "Wold Of Warplanes" by Wargaming) - U can play pure arcade battles or some kind of simulation battles (in this case joystick is recommended). Tank battles are quite difficult when compared to famous "World Of Tanks", but much more realistic: U just can feel 50 tons of steel U have to drive. However if U decide to play few battles only - U probably won't have much fun from game. In my case it was simple scenario: drive forward -> kaboom from nowhere -> my tank is destroyed :D. After few battles I started to play much careful and slowly gameplay becomes better and better. Of course I'm still not "pro player", but game gives me satisfaction and fun: deep ride on T34 or M-24 Chaffee and attack enemy from behind - wonderful :D.
Interface is really confusing from beginning, but after some time it becomes clearer.

As always I'm sorry for my imperfect language.

X Rebirth Space Sim Now On Linux In Alpha Form & Free On Steam For The Weekend
12 Mar 2015 at 9:37 pm UTC Likes: 1

Downloaded and launched. I don`t know whats good with my rig, but Rebirth works perfectly. I`ve been waiting for linux port of this game, but I was afraid it won't be palyable on my old Phenom. Ok, I did`t engage any dogfight yet, but I assume it won't be a problem.
Game seems completely different than previous X universe games, but in Rebirth U can really feel piloting own space machine. Your ship is "heavy", it has kind of inertia - my first impression was "wow, i have my own Millenium Falcon". In "wormholes" (space highways) I had serious fps drop, but I assume this won`t affect overall gameplay - that's only travel interrupt between action parts of the game (I hope so). I don`t know why they abandon stargate concept in this game, but ok, I can take it. Main issue: I can`t turn off v-sync in game, screen goes completely dark. Even with v-sync game works perfectly, but I think without it could works better.

Again, my old, good rig:
Phenom X2 3.1 Ghz, 4Gb Ram, GeForce 460SE 1Gb Video RAM, Linux Mint 17 Cinnamon 64bit.

Finally - we can play it awaiting Star Citizen and Elite: Dangerous. And if any of U don`t like multiplayer games: U have many hours of fun.

Sky Gamblers: Storm Raiders Air Combat Game Released For Linux, Our Thoughts

@aristorias: true. Il-2 Sturmovik is absolutely best combat sim, even for more arcade-oriented players. And it works like a charm with Wine (it`s OpenGL app). Plus many mods as "Dark Blue World" for offline players (which boost in-game graphics) or many single players scenarios (my favourite was campaign for Bf-109E in Africa) gives best flight and dogfight experience i`ve ever met. Even WarThunder - very good arcade game - cant compete with Il-2 series. Flight and damage model are incredible, U can simply feel machine U're flying. Especially in first "Il-2 Sturmovik" game. However in '1946' edition with mods, U have over 200 planes U can fly (with some strange german "wunderwaffe" like "Lerche" lol ;))
