Sword Coast Legends RPG Released For Linux, Some Initial Thoughts

I'm on the fence with this one looking at the video it looks alright. If I were to ask if you felt the game play was worth closer to a $60 game or a $20 game which would you who own it say?

Arch based is up to 30% - cinnamon desktop has dropped other than that I have to ask about question 11 with the "didn't buy any games" selection is that newer or are Linux users buying less games?

Is the Intel driver question a joke or are people clueless?

Valve Rep Confirms Why Some Games Have Their SteamOS Icon Removed
18 Oct 2015 at 2:41 pm UTC

Quoting: liamdaweValve have needed to standardise something for a while, I see this as a step in the right direction for anyone using Steam on Linux. Things were a mess before, and now a little less so.
While I don't buy this argument on premise unless you're linking against some insane versions or something, this could however be a minds eye perspective thing because how many times have we heard "I can't support 200 distro" arguments because developers are idiots? This could be seen as a "we only have to support that distro" kind of thing without them realizing it runs under every other distro (red hat excluded since it's base is ancient).

And I agree with the poster about Java, make the game have a Java icon then because Java isn't a native Windows library/runtime either.

Quoting: Crazy PenguinYou are right, it isn't! I would rather develop in C# then in C/C++. :D
You mean on a Windows machine or on Linux? ... Or both I guess.

Storm United UE4 FPS Updated, Works Great On Linux Now & On Sale

Using radeonsi it doesn't even get into the game, so buyer beware, I wish Liam would test this kind of stuff (i.e. not using just proprietary drivers) before saying "Works great"...

Magicka 2 Looks Like It Will Have Lower Performance On AMD Cards

Quoting: XzylI develop on AMD and Intel mesa stack, if it works well there it damn well better work great amd and nvidia proprietary.
Maybe. You might need to modify a few things, depending what you've done and how close you are to spec.
Just as an example, I had code that ran fine with Mesa, but not on anything else. It was entirely my own fault of course (things running in the wrong thread, oops), and fortunately nothing too difficult to change considering it was caught early, but it does highlight that it's not purely an nvidia blob issue - it's a sticking to one driver only for most of your development issue.
I probably should of said that so far it has worked without issue. Sadly, as awful as this is, I need to buy another nvidia card as my kepler test card died... I swear the computer gods are determined to make me hate nvidia.

"If you argue that nvidia has the bigger marketshare... well, why are we even here then? Windows has the bigger marketshare (on the desktop that is weisenheimer!), so why even bother with Linux-porting at all?"

I maybe wrong, but if I am wrong, why is it people like Liam didn't seem to know how to use the ~ to indicate home? I bet the vast majority of the users here spend as little time in a terminal as possible and probably don't use any of the benefits Linux actually has to offer. I think it's more of a dislike of Windows than a love of *nix that most people are here and they want to play games on their new found platform and I honestly can't blame them they just want them to work. Sadly nvidia offers the better experience, of course much of this is coding for their broken GL implementation explicitly then blaming AMD when it doesn't work on their drivers but whatever.

AMD Lose Another Big Name, This Time To Nvidia
15 Oct 2015 at 4:28 am UTC

Actually I'm not sure this is really news, if it was any other company this wouldn't be news, Humble bundle lays off 25% (or whatever the number was) of it's workforce, now that's gaming news, especially for Linux users. I'm sick of sites making a big deal of Jim Keller joining then leaving AMD when the first time around it barely had a single article or the fact the M$ or samsung lay of hundreds of workers and ... and... crickets.. keep your standards higher than phoronix Liam please.
Editorial: (used for comedic effect)
Just the other day was reading the news about Nvidia losing it's main patent troll extortion case, great company you guys buy from. If you think just ditching M$ makes you a better person time to think again. AMD is the only choice for those who value freedom in computing (for dedicated graphics) however I fear you most of you guys are just bitter Windows users and not Linux users to begin with.

Linux Prototype Available For Platformer RPG Indivisible From Skullgirls Developer

It reminds me of Grandia 2 x Adventure Time!

Story wise and introduction to characters seems to not be implemented as of yet but as far as the actual game play it's not bad, a bit repetitive with 0 thinking for the most part but it's a pretty solid base to expand on I guess.

"All you do is wonder around a poorly designed map"
wonder = wander?

These unity "baby's first games" (As Jim Sterling puts it) are really giving greenlight and unity a bad name...
