Valve's Source Engine 2 Looks To Be Coming To Dota 2 As A DLC

Over 1000 hours logged here... Yes the community is pretty... um... ragey.
I'm hoping the new engine reduces initial loading of the game which is pretty long considering it loads every shader on Linux right off. For those who use catalyst I would suggest using the open stack for this game it reduces action latency, how or why I don't know since I get less FPS with the mesa stack but be damned if it doesn't perform better. If and when radeon gets vulkan support I would love to test this out as dota2 was already shown running on the intel stack with vulkan as a tech demo.

Legend Of Grimrock No Longer Works On Nvidia GeForce GTX 900 Series GPUs

On topic... Nvidia users have had it pretty good with the games that have came out lately. Sadly, Nvidia isn't a company anyone who likes linux (or what it stands for) should be supporting, however to each their own. I haven't used nvidia since my last fermi caught fire, is there an official channel for bugs on nvidias website?

Quoting: subI thought Hamish was Canadian? As for as the German saying, outside of the Pennsylvania-Dutch communities and their surroundings I don't hear words like this. Granted, Hamish is an intellectual and some of his circles may indeed use such terminology but here in N.Y. I'm stuck trying to teach people it's just "regardless" and other simple things... Yeah not really what I would call common.Quoting: HamishWhile it obviously sucks for those who are suffering from this, I must admit to getting a certain amount of schadenfreude from this. Maybe even a little vindication. ;)Wow, I wasn't aware that the German word schadenfreude is also common in the US. :)

Divinity: The Original Sin Enhanced Edition Announced, No Linux Release Date

So as a kickstarter backer, all I can do is cross my fingers and hope for the mythically late promised game.

Quoting: liamdaweAgain, the wait is ridiculous but as long as they stay in communication, assuring it's coming, and do deliver I will begrudgingly accept it without being too salty but if they fail this time.... I couldn't even begin to measure my disappointed in Larian at that point.Quoting: berillionsWhere is the problem for you ?And how long have we waited already to find out the original is not coming, but the newer one is? You can then argue we are getting a fuller game, but how long do we have to wait, again? What if it never comes?
Divinity: The Original Sin will not be available on Linux but Divinity: The Original Sin Enhanced Edition yes ... If you can't wait the new version, it's not my problem.

instead of breaking down the comments...
The communication was #1 the worst when again, a company that was soo good at keeping people updated right until release (windows mac).
Other than that, IDK, obviously Linux isn't quite the money maker in the gaming scene so I don't expect people to go under making sure Linux is release the same day, but Icculus could of ported it himself in 1/4 of the time, or so it seems. This is just a really long wait for something that has no end in sight.
Personally I just don't care if people want to flame larian they probably should feel bad. I am not one to pull punches even in a work environment if something needs saying it gets said. Obviously I don't want many users to spit out emotional and incomprehensible dribble but they certainly should be able to say something, staying mum isn't going to get you anywhere.

Serious question, I got sick playing bioshock i suppose in part due to the FOV which i changed but still after a while I would get carsick. I have heard VR sets are real bad at causing this, has anyone heard if they have conquered this issue with any of the sets mentioned ?

While I try to stay positive with Larian the lack of communication on the Linux port alone was enough reason for many to get angry. I don't blame them. If people didn't cast a negative light on certain games for breaking things or screwing over their fanbase ( in general not just Linux ) nothing would change.
You can think people are acting entitled, or like children all you want, you perfect people. I for one know people will get upset and sometimes these companies really need to hear it. Larian's lack of communication about the state of this port was really deplorable.
BTW ty Liam for the updates.
afterthought: many people complained about the mods for money thing on valve, which this site even called childish complaining, and look at the result that came from it good or bad, the complainers got their way.

I don't understand how people can be using proprietary intel drivers on Linux...
Two takeaways from this, Arch continues to be a good quarter of Linux gamers.
AMD's open sauce drivers are ~50% usage amongst gamers, wow it's come along way. Wish more people
would reward them.

Larian has generally had a couple projects on the go at once. D:OS turned in to an 'all-in bet the company on success' deal, but doing that repeatedly may not continue to pay off in the long run.
Also, having and hiring writers, artists, designers, scripters, etc, to work on other projects does not take anything away from the programmers working on the Linux port of the engine.

And during the kickstarter it was specifically stated the work on the Mac and Linux versions had been halted, and these versions were only officially confirmed once the initial goal was reached. The Linux version was always going to be started after the Mac version was done, and was described that was during the kickstarter; the extra work required just ended up being much more involved and time consuming than originally thought.
Regardless, anyone who back on kickstarter specifically for the Linus version who is unhappy with the delay can get a refund.

Larian Studios Working On A New Game While Divinity: Original Sin Is Still Not On Linux

The thing that has always bothered me is the lack of updates. Those like me who backed this game remember the update song well, as Larian was amazing at keeping in touch and letting people know what was going on... until they weren't.
Once it was released for Window and Max, Linux port in a state of silence. No updates for a very long time then the middleware issue came to light as well as a branch issue. Delays and issues, while unfortunate do happen but this is a very long wait, and as others have said it has seemed bigger games getting ported by 1 person seem to come out much faster.
I keep holding my breath and do appreciate when updates are given about the Linux port. I just wish they would keep in touch better.
As for as being upset over the time, at this point I am utterly defeated and can't even attempt to get angry I am all dried up over this one.

It should also be known that there is a margin of error. Linux usage could be 1% exact and look like 1.03 one month and .97 the next and not of budged. Liam are you being paid to say lovely things about the 970? You seem to go on about it often.
