Quoting: soulsourcethe only conclusion you can take from that is tha flatpak is a lot more distro independent than appimage and gentoo is annoyingQuoting: poke86the Linux version is an AppImage andMy conclusion from this is that AppImage does not make the dependency situation better. If at all, it makes it more annoying.

Quoting: pleasereadthemanualI'm glad NVIDIA pushed the entire Linux Graphics Stack to implement explicit sync too. It makes all of our desktops better. They dragged us down by 10 years, without supporting GDB, wayland, etc, amd intel always had that figured out, except nvidia, this is a good solution yes, but because of their lazyness we aren't using wayland from default since years

Quoting: BlackBloodRumI've always found this "Wine causes cheating" to be a bit of an excuse. The majority of cheat software is made specifically for Windows and in-turn windows games. They make these claims, but never back it up with anything other than saying "we just know".they needed to disable a lot of functions in their anticheat to don't trigger in wine, and in turn it made easier to make anticheats in windows(because of the disable functions) that why, is a good excuse, sad, but it's true
It really feels like a false reason. I mean, don't you find it ironic devs will turn around and say "We won't provide a Linux build because the Linux market is too small!" followed by "We are blocking Linux because there are too many people on Linux cheating!". Well, make up your mind because both sets of the OS's cheaters are a small subset of that OS's users.

Quoting: Eikeand if their distribution made is shit?Valve posted asking people to consider using the official Valve .deb packagePlease, please, please, please not!
I'm reading nearly every thread in the Steam for Linux forum, and we hear problems from people having used the downloadable deb for over a decade now! People should use what their distribution made of it, adding their dependencies and such. I cannot believe Valve proposes to actually use that!

newer lybraries too
also, it could be more secure, because the game is in a sandbox
but everything here is covered by flatpak, and it work better too, and it's ubuntu choice to have out-of-date drivers

Quoting: KimyrielleI am thinking of a really compelling reason to containerize Steam and can't come up with one...newer driver, that why they packaged with snaps

Quoting: constno one compare that, only USA, and it's the most broken oneQuoting: PikoloThe patent office can't find prior art for those? How? They're all issued since 2019! The only one that even seems novel is AUTOMATED PLAYER CONTROL TAKEOVER IN A VIDEO GAME, and I'd assume someone more familiar with MMORPGs can find an example. ROUTE NAVIGATION SYSTEM WITHIN A GAME APPLICATION ENVIRONMENT is bonkers - we've had animated navigation lines for decades!Get used to it. The patent system is screwed since countries started to compare their innovation strength by a simple #patent-metric. There is no incentive for patent offices to deny patents and big corporations are the only ones able to navigate the mess to their benefit.
