AMD have launched an update to their open source Radeon GPU Analyzer, better Vulkan support

to help you understand and fine-tune it for the target GPU you care about.
Well this doesn't sound at all like it was a release timed to support developers endeavors in squeezing out performance benefits for a single new custom AMD GPU designed for a certain new game streaming service.

NVIDIA to support VESA Adaptive Sync with 'G-SYNC Compatible' branding
8 Jan 2019 at 12:33 am UTC

Haven't checked lately to see if one is being sold yet but the checklist I have for my ideal monitor is as follows:
  • 27-32 inch panel

  • IPS quantum dot LED display

  • Freesync

  • ≤4 ms response time

  • ≥1440p resolution

  • 75 Hz refresh rate

  • ≤$250 price tag

I may be in for a long wait.

The Early Access MMO 'Project: Gorgon' now has a demo available

I've given up on any native AAA MMORPG coming to linux in less than five years time however I'm finding it to be not so much an issue anymore. I'm playing Elder Scrolls Online through WINE and thanks to DXVK the performance is pretty great. ESO just transitioned its Mac client to Vulkan so I think it's only a matter of time before the PC client follows suit and then my performance will be within a few percentage points of the native Windows client I bet.

Total War: THREE KINGDOMS confirmed to be coming to Linux, port from Feral Interactive

For now lets be glad that there are some gaming studios providing revenue for Feral Interactive to stay in business and keep their skills honed. If in the future gaming on Linux does become a thing and more AAA studios start looking into ports it will greatly ease the transition for there to already be well vetted porters in operation.

A writer for Forbes has been talking about the positives of switching to Linux

Quoting: Mountain ManMy wife recently bought a new laptop with Windows preinstalled. I spent a couple of hours uninstalling all the junk software that it came with and configuring the OS so that she could use it.

I had another older computer that needed a fresh OS install, so I put KDE Neon on it. The whole process from start to finish took about 30-minutes, and it "just worked".

I hate Windows.
Couldn't you have just wiped the computer and installed Windows from scratch? The fresh installs don't have any of the manufacturers bloatware. I personally dislike the invasive data collection, having antivirus software, and miss the linux command line when I use Windows but it's stuff all non-linux users are completely accustomed with.

Anyway, the stuff Windows has historically beaten linux hands down on are actively being worked on so hopefully the linux desktop will eventually catch on. Honestly, the last things linux needs to really take off are more OEM's willing to preload it, support for apps that keep people constrained to windows like Office and the adobe suite, and maybe its own exclusive killer apps.

Valve officially confirm a new version of 'Steam Play' which includes a modified version of Wine

Pfft... all the people that have been broadcasting the idea that Valve is no longer dedicated to linux and they've been pulling the strings in a major operation from behind the scenes.

Hopefully Valve forks WINE so that it can better be targeted as a linux solution in a way that the WINE developers were never willing to do. The WINE devs have long refused to implement OS specific ways to improve compatibility and performance as they want to reduce platform specific code. This sometimes results in them duplicating effort to make their own wine specific code that doesn't always work out so great.

Admirable goal and a good idea for software which is meant to be used by both Linux and Mac but Valve is only targeting Linux and there are probably some low hanging fruit that could be plucked by eschewing those convictions.

Quoting: GuestNegative comments help deter people from buying bad products. Sorry, but this has Ouya/Steam Machine written all over it.

Also they're not really a small company, they're a failing company. Maybe they can turn a new leaf, but up until now they've earned the stigma that they currently have.
Oh, I totally forgot Ouya was a thing until I read your comment.

Developers of the RPG 'Edge Of Eternity' are still waiting on Unity before supporting Linux
9 Jul 2018 at 5:19 pm UTC

This game is making me flash back to Legends of Aethereus [External Link]. Great looking RPG funded by kickstarter and using the Unity engine. Hopefully this pans out better; that game was abandoned before the final finishing touches and refinements that were promised were applied. That said I don't have any regrets spending the $20 on Aethereus; back then there were almost no decent linux games in the wild and I found it a lot of fun even in its incomplete beta form.

DXVK for Vulkan-based D3D11 in Wine version 0.61 is out with improved performance

Quoting: GuestCool thanks everyone!

Now if I could find a game that worked properly with a DXVK+wine combination, that'd be nice, lol...
It sounds like ESO works properly with DXVK though I haven't tried it myself.
