Quoting: ElvanexThis is a perfect example of how to properly implement a subscription without completely killing the game. :) Well done Valve! If WoW were only $3.99 a month I'd probably keep a subscription going even if I only planned to play like two or three times a month. It's simultaneously fortunate and unfortunate that won't ever happen. Fortunate because I can't trust myself to not get absorbed in the game.

Quoting: GuestI tried it in linux when they had a free weekend event a while back, it was trash performance wise. IC they've yet to improve it any if at all. This is related to UE4's linux support or more on their side I wonder.Probably a bit of both. Developers always seems to have massive linux problems developing on UE4. Crossing my fingers for a good Insurgency sandstorm but a lot is working against it on linux with it being a UE title I think.
Quick tip: Adjusting video clip audio levels in Kdenlive

One of the big things keeping Kdenlive from being professional quality I think is an inherent weakness of MLT. The preview box of the editor only renders using one core which is a limitation imposed by the MLT framework and can't really be addressed by the Kdenlive developers. I think that and the currently poor title editor are the only two complaints that keep it from being mindblowingly good from my perspective. But they're going to be addressing the title editor sometime soon after the refactoring is finished I think. Still hands down best free video editor on linux and I was so stoked when the developer came back after he finished dealing with some of life's problems.
A big Yooka-Laylee patch helps some of the annoyances I had

I backed this on kickstarter because at $15 it felt like a steal and I want the 3d platformer genre back but in the first place a banjo kazooie like title never really appealed to me. Granted I only occasionally played it on demos in stores but as a kid all I needed was my Spyro to get my fix. Spyro was great, I feel like downloading an emulator now and playing it some.
Insurgency: Sandstorm looks absolutely stunning, still planned to release on Linux

Insurgency is still like the only game I play habitually. Its gameplay feels so much like Socom II which I was addicted to in my teens.
I think they're using unreal engine 4 for sandstorm so I hope they don't run into problems. It feels like a lot of developers that try to make linux games on unreal engine 4 run into problem after problem and delay for linux because of it. Definitely going to purchase this and probably be hulled up in my room for hours on end.

With the rate radeonsi has been moving I'm expecting it to be completely on par with linux Nvidia proprietary in about a years time. And then be up to the same quality standards as Windows drivers a year after that. :crosses fingers:
AMD Vulkan driver 'radv' is now 'effectively a pass' for conformance

Quoting: ElectricPrismSo in other words this means that RADV driver is 72.4% conforming to the rendering test in the same way that browsers conform to ACID2 and ACID3 test to test their rendering capabilities? You're mistaking drivers I think; RADV is the mesa backed driver and all the code is already open and available. AMD has an in house vulkan driver that currently performs slightly better than RADV and I think that's the one you thought this article was about. They're still waiting for the greenlight to open source that one.
Fantastic. I was hoping however to read that the pass was a "go-ahead" from their legal department or some other management to release code. Soon? Hopefully.
The Signal From Tölva, the new open-world FPS from Big Robot may still come to Linux

So if the game engine miraculously starts working with minimal involvement and the planets line up just right they may think about releasing it with the conditions that should it ever break in an update they won't be particularly bothered to fix it?
It's honestly what I get from the wording but at least the developers show some interest which is better than none.

They honestly look too green for me to be convinced this is a solid deal. Only Kickstarter I've backed so far was Yooka-Laylee and that looks to be turning out an extremely successful project. What do I attribute the success to? The fact that an extremely significant number of the developers behind the project have been designing games for decades and have a proven track record.
Hopefully they prove me wrong because more games and developers for linux is a very big win for linux desktop which I'd love to some day see actually penetrate into the consumer desktop share.

Phoronix has already run tests. Loading times in Deus Ex MD have been drastically reduced but most other games tested didn't show much results. However that there have been no negative consequences makes this is a huge win even if it's only beneficial for a few select games.
The results also show an FPS increase which is weird because from what I've gathered this feature shouldn't improve FPS. Someone on forums mentioned it has something to do with the benchmark restarting itself but honestly I don't quite understand the explanation given.

Quoting: pal666there is no fps improvements from this feature. it is seen on benchmark only because benchmark is short and restarts game. if you don't restart game, you will see no fps improvements during play after first shader loads.
