Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 is now Steam Deck Verified with a big update
13 Dec 2025 at 4:05 pm UTC

I played it on console. It was ugly smeary mess. There was like weird clear layer around the hair, I think it is called a "halo artifact". It looked terrible. The game was good and I'll probably play it again, but I hope PC settings and FSR4 can get rid of it.

Valve reveal the new Steam Frame, Steam Controller and Steam Machine with SteamOS

How is that possible? 4k@120Hz is possible via DSC but no VRR/FreeSync.
These are HDMI 2.1 specs, which doesn't work on Linux-AMD-Systems.
HDMI 2.0 can do 4K 120 Hz 4:2:0, 4K 120 Hz 4:4:4 requires HDMI 2.1.

Steam Controller is day 1 buy.
I'll probably buy the Steam Frame if I get a bonus or something at work.
The Steam Machine depends on price. In most cases, with the exception of consoles, the price is higher than building it yourself.

Shin Megami Tensei V: Vengeance gets Steam Deck Verified

Quoting: Purple Library GuySo, um . . . what is it? Is it an RPG-type thing?
Yes, its is re-release of a turn based (they call it Press Turn) open world post apocalyptic RPG. Originally it was released for a Switch, this re-release is for most platforms. The story is sparse and weak, but they claim they improved it in this re-release. You roam around fighting demons and capturing them to fight for you. It is made by the same company as Persona and the combat is very similar with a few differences. This is one of my favorite games, but pop in, draw distance, frame rate, low resolution, etc bothered me playing it on the Switch. I was going to buy it on PS5, but since it is already Steam Deck verified, I'll switch to Steam.

AMD reveal RDNA 2 with Radeon RX 6900 XT, Radeon RX 6800 XT, Radeon RX 6800

For anyone considering finally making the switch from Nvidia to AMD this is my prediction on how the Linux experience will be based on buying a 5700XT on launch day.

Announcement Today
Cards released December 10th, only usable through proprietary drivers on Ubuntu LTS
Ubuntu LTS updates kernel, proprietary drivers dont work any more, no fix from AMD
3 months after release, open source drivers work if you build several things from git and manually download firmware
Ubuntu 21.04 is released, but not everything made it in time, if you add a few nightly ppas it is usable but still crashes in things like GIMP
A distro is released that had good support for 6000 series, but it is a distro you hate.
Ubuntu 21.10 is released and finally 6000 series has good support.

My Nvidia experience is normally

Buy Nvidia card on launch day, install proprietary drivers, works great on Ubuntu LTS. If a kernel update breaks Nvidia drivers (I can remember the last time this happened) there is a beta driver out fairly quickly.

Personally, I will keep using my 5700XT until there is a game that comes out that it cant handle at 1440p ultra that I will want to play. If a new game comes out and AMD open source driver support is good, I will buy AMD even if it has lower price/perf.

Quoting: bisbyxFor $700 in 1.5 months, AMD is not going to go roll out something noticeably faster than the 3080.
That is pretty true for the most part. NVIDIA sets pricing, AMD prices their stuff accordingly. There is one generation that I can remember (cant remember which one) that AMD has caused NVIDIA to lower their prices. If 6800XT is performs worse than 3080, then it will cost less, if it performs better, it will cost more. They are always within like $50 for price per performance. At $700, I don't care about +/- $50.

Quoting: pete910Well thats not good I admit but you did have day one support so the reply to Breeze is true in which he/she is talking complete bullshit !

Where is NVIDIAs day one support with there OSS driver? Oh, wait....
There were other problems too. Computer frozen from using GIMP and Firefox, poor performance in some games, random freezes from desktop with no programs open, 2 monitors not working. I can't remember a time where I had Linux completely freeze and not be able to switch to terminal before getting a 5700XT. No one that used the AMD proprietary driver on day one 5700XT would consider it even close to the stability of a typical NVIDIA beta driver release. AMD had "day one support" in that there was a driver to download and install for the first few weeks in 18.04 and you may be able to play a 3D game for a little bit, but not use GIMP. It would be like you ordering a steak and me serving you a rat steak and saying "still technically a steak."

Quoting: pete910Just to note while I agree on the late oss driver support on distros like *buntu there was nothing stopping you from using AMD's prop driver.
I ordered the 5700XT on launch day and used the AMD proprietary driver on 18.04 LTS, there was an update a few weeks after to 18.04 LTS and the driver no longer worked.

If 6800XT is anything like the 5700XT launch:

  • October 28th announcement of release November 30th, reference only.
  • February 1st AIB cards released.
  • March 1st, I can build the kernel and Mesa from git branches to have a somewhat stable experience.
  • October 2021 first Ubuntu release that works reliably, April release didn't have everything.

I have bought a few Nvidia cards and they worked with proprietary drivers the week of release with zero issues. I have a 5700XT, the question for me is:

Is there a game that will be released before October 2021 that I will want 2x performance of 5700XT? If there is, I will buy a Nvidia RTX 3080, if not I'll buy a 6800XT most likely.

Games that may make me want to upgrade:
  • Cyberpunk 2077
  • Vampire the Masquerades: Bloodlines 2 (not looking good)
  • Starfield
  • New Elder scrolls game
  • Avowed
