Ars Technica Benchmarks Show Windows 10 Beating SteamOS Performance

No one here should be surprised at these results. Especially with a clean Linux system and clean Windows system. I think that gap would shrink if you took a Linux and Windows computer after a year of use. All the Windows and OS X users at my work complain how slow their computers are and that they need to do a fresh install.

Divinity: Original Sin - Enhanced Edition Delayed For Linux, Again

They don't deserve our Kickstarter support (and apparently they don't need it), but wait for the port quality before we decide on if they deserve our support. We waited 3-4 years for Civ V, we shouldn't get annoyed if developers take a long time to port. We should be grateful that they port it at all and the port is good quality. However, I am not hopeful for a good quality port at this point.

You should make a mailing list. I'd like to know when the game is released so I can pick it up.

I pledge in the kickstarter. I am not upset as long as they deliver it eventually and it works decently. I can wait. However, I can't justify supporting another kickstarter with them unless I can play DOS or DOS2 has day one or few months promised Linux client.

Oculus Has "Paused" Linux Development On The Rift VR Headset

VR may be interesting to me with Kinect games, but I don't have interest in it for most games. I can move the mouse faster than I can move my head. Steam needs a Kinect type sensor to go with the VR.

The premiss behind this game is interesting. The couple times I played it, it seemed like it lacked that snowball momentum I got when playing Civ V. I might be playing it wrong.

Why Are We Still Dual Booting?

Quoting: maodzedunAlso I've yet to find a Linux alternative that fully replaces Notepad++
Same here, except that I run Notepad++ in wine. It works pretty good except when you update a file through something else while it is open. I don't know if it is still a problem or I have just learned to avoid doing it.

Why Are We Still Dual Booting?

I don't have a Windows drive or partition right now, but I plan on adding one back in. I don't plan on buying Windows again, but as long as my retail copy keeps allowing me to install on hardware upgrades, I will keep it around.

I will not purchase another game that doesn't run on Linux, but I have a vast library of previously purchased games that run on Windows to make it worth while to keep a Windows partition going. That said, I use it once every 6 months.

There are too many Linux client games I want to play, that I don't see me booting into Windows any time soon.

Linux user/developer then Gamer
I use Wine for Office (for work) and Notepad++ and no games.

I kickstarted Camelot Unchained before I decided to go Linux only, so I might dual boot to play that.

President Of Blizzard Responds To The Linux Petition, Petition Owner Creates Childish Response

Okay, let's do a cost benefit analysis for WoW. If there are 8.3 million subscribers and lets say Linux support increases the number of subscribers by half a percent. That would mean more than 41,500 new subscribers. At $15 a month that is $622,000 a year. If we assume the cost of wages, healthcare, management, support, rent of each worker is $200K. that would mean around 3 people can support a Linux build. I can see someone arguing both ways about my estimates, cause I am pulling these out of the air mostly. However, it is clear that even for the largest potential money maker for Blizzard that a net profit isn't guaranteed. I think I am under estimating and over estimating against Linux, but we should respect Blizzard's point of view. Linux support isn't guaranteed to make them money and they will have to take on some risk for little potential profit.

Tell Blizzard You Want Linux Support In Their Games

Overwatch looks like it could be fun. I hope they make a Linux client for that.
