Developer breaks silence about 'The Silent Age', a point-and-click adventure for which a Linux port was promised

What do these developers mean by middleware? Are they talking about network, database, keyboard/controller libraries? There are tons of platform independent libraries for those.

Street Fighter V has passed the initial Linux & SteamOS release window

I pre-ordered because I thought they had Linux in the beta even though nothing at all indicated there was a Linux client in the beta. I used the beta key and saw Linux wasn't there and now I can't return it because I technically "used" the beta key. I am an idiot, maybe this time I will learn my lesson.

I doubt they will release Linux any time soon, the game isn't even remotely close to finished. They might even abandon Linux all together because they don't seem to have the resources to complete it on the platforms they sold. In addition, it is selling lower than their expectations.

I think they ruined SF V by releasing a game early with features that only 10% of the users use for a tournament that 1% of the users heard of. I only want to play in Arcade mode and that won't even be in this month's release. Even if it was released on Linux, I wouldn't be playing it this month.

Things I feel Valve need to address to help SteamOS really be something fantastic

Going further than that, I don’t really get why Steam don’t just automatically query machines to be more accurate. They already have vast amounts of data from you that you probably don’t realise.
Because taking a random sample is close enough for most purposes of the survey.

Also, Steam Big Picture mode and SteamOS are still to this day not even included in their own Hardware Survey.
I bet Valve knows exactly how many people are using Big Picture mode and have SteamOS installed. It would be idiotic to release those products without monitoring how many people actually use them. They need to track these things to see how much resources they should put to it. If we don't know how many people have SteamOS installed, then it is because Valve doesn't want us to know. If Valve doesn't want us to know, then we can figure out the rest.

What have you been playing on Linux recently and what do you think about it?

7 Days to Die. It's similar to Civ V because it's a time machine. I open the game and suddenly its 6 hours later.

Steam Machines are dead in the water according to Ars, not quite

I am really curious on what Valve thinks of their SteamOS progress more than anything. As long as they continue their work and push patches upstream, I am not worried.

Survival game Rust adds female player models, assigns gender to Steam accounts at random

Did they say this is how it will be in the final game or is this for testing purposes? If I want to test every combination of race/gender/body type. How do I do that? I randomly assign the characteristics based on some unique identifier (steam id). I wouldn't care either way.

Developer of Banished writes up his thoughts on Linux

Every time I have to install Windows on a system, I need several driver discs or I am screwed. The only thing I do with Linux is add a repo for proprietary graphics drivers. I just had a Windows box from work arrive. It took 2 days until it was fully updated. I went back to check several times a day to see if updates were done and rebooted it manually. I don't understand why people put up with that crap and why they think Linux is harder.

Developers of ARK: Survival Evolved facing a lawsuit from the Dungeon Defenders devs

NC's don't really make sense for games. Say he left a racing game development and went to work for another racing game. If they were both good, I would buy both racing games happily. These games don't overlap at all, so it makes even less sense. It makes sense in the case where two companies are competing for the same contract. It would be counterproductive and whatever company has the biggest wallet could buy a window into their competitor's IP.

Kingdom Come: Deliverance doesn't look like it will come to Linux any time soon

Game isn't released yet and they say they still want to support Linux. Maybe they will Larion us and get us a nice polished client 2 years after release, I wouldn't mind that. You guys freak out too easily. There is no easy path for a Linux client right now, but they will probably figure out one eventually

I wish they resent directions to Kickstarter backers. I had to dig it up from old e-mail (June 2014). Go to https://www.larianvault.com [External Link], log in, click on D:OS Kickstarter, and claim reward.
