STASIS, the amazing looking point-and-click, sci-fi, horror game is being actively worked on for Linux

Uuh, how stupid. I didn't redeem it in the winter sale, as it wasn't for Linux :'(
Looks like I'll have to buy it myself, then....

Quoting: torhamI don't think we ought to consider this DRM-free, it is just really easy to rip it yourself. While the game does not have its own DRM, the overall product still does.
Why? Assuming the games are exactly the same (bit for bit) - how can Steam add DRM to it?

Because with Steam you only 'rent' the game as long as you have your account, and IIR the EULA correct you are not allowed to play without Steam (that's some years back - might have changed).

QuoteAnd I'd say the "overall product" in GOG and Humble Bundle do have DRM too since the games are bound to an account or at least a specific key to manage if I have the right to download the digital game. Just the games itself are free from any additional checks.

Then the same would be true for stuff bought, e.g., via Amazon. Of course this is not true. You need the account for buying and downloading once, but you are allowed to keep this download even if you quit your 'membership'. It's not tied to it, neither physically nor legally.

Maybe for most not a huge difference IRL. For me it is, and the reason I'll never use Steam, not even for such 'DRM-free' games.

Quoting: PublicNuisanceGOG has the Linux version of the full game but not the demo. I downloaded the demo on Steam. It's weird but having the full game DRM free is more important than the demo if I have to choose.

You're too impatient :D
The Demo is now also on GOG

Unfortunately 1.9GB is too much for my slow link at home, so I'll have to wait a bit before trying it. But the teaser looks very promising.

Quoting: legluondunetThe better way for me is to install the windows version with wine and it works near perfectly. It's a pity GOG does not provide Windows games packaged with wine, NWN could benefit of this method.

They do sell games which are known to work with wine for linux, but (fortunately!) not bundled with wine - you need to install that yourself separately. I regard this a good thing™ for a >150MB footprint package....

But even as this is a linux package (their installer takes care of everything) I try to stay away from those, and only get native stuff, which I have more than enough of - even without steam.

Nostalgia might be a reason to do it - but not for me. At the time most of those typically somewhat/quite old games were released I had already switched to Linux :D

X-Plane 11 now in beta, also has a demo available

@Ehvis: Thanks - had checked that already, w/o success.

But it is the video card. At home it does run w/o problems....
Irritating though that there is neither a crash nor an error message. So I filed a bugreport.

That convert script is indeed outdated, and even if you manage to update it somehow - it's only for creating a .deb package, so I strongly assume you'd need a debian machine to successfully run that script on first hand.
So while I could not resist to get and download it, I doubt I will go through the pain of trying to get this working ....

I might get SOMA (still on my wishlist, but I need to verify I want it) and maybe 'We are the Dwarves' (which got not the best reviews, but at -75%....). Most of the (interesting) rest I do already own....

Anima Gate of Memories, a third person action RPG is now on Linux, some quick thoughts

As the Win/Mac Versions are also on GOG - any clue if they'll also get the Linux one?

If so, I'm quite interested......

Installer runs fine (openSUSE Tumbleweed), but the game won't run, at least not on my Laptop (i7-6820HQ, 16GB, NVidia 940MX). At ~2/3 of the load bar it falls dead (Will use some 4-5% CPU, but no more screen updates).
Is the video card too slow, or might it be related to a message about disabling the screensaver where it cannot find org.gnome.SessionManager? At least it repeats the message
Sending inhibit command to xorg screenSaver.
several times if I leave it running....

I'll try later at home on the desktop (GX980)....

'Battle Chasers: Nightwar' is a visually stunning RPG inspired by a comic, that might be released next year

Yeow!

Immediately wishlisted. Is this really the only 'source' mentioning Linux? Hope it's not a false alarm...
