Commander Cool 2, A Tribute To Old 2D Arcade Platformers
24 Feb 2015 at 11:17 am UTC

There are many good platformers for Linux on Steam. Even ignoring great platformers that are mostly focused on puzzles, like Monochroma, Thomas Was Alone (not advertised, but available), LIMBO, Escape Goat 1 & 2 (they have some insane precision platforming challenges though), Nihilumbra, Rochard and Blocks That Matter and excellent looking platformers that I have little personal familiarity with like Bleed, Dust: An Elysian Tail, Apotheon, Aaru's Awakening, OlliOlli, Electronic Super Joy, Völgarr the Viking, Terrian Saga: KR-17 and Glare, I can still make a pretty lengthy list of good platformers for Linux on Steam:

- Super Meat Boy
- eversion
- Cave Story+
- Knytt Underground
- You Have to Win the Game
- Super Win the Game
- Teslagrad
- SteamWorld Dig
- 140
- Gunslugs 2
- 6180 the Moon
- Runner2
- FEZ
- Mark of the Ninja
- Dustforce DX
- VVVVVV
- Psychonauts
- Trine 1 & 2

It wasn't related. This mouse I have pastes the last thing you copy if you press the mouse wheel too hard for some reason... So accident :).
Sounds like the click gets picked up by the sensor under your scroll wheel/middle mouse button. Middle click usually means "paste the last marked region". Good thing you didn't accidentally paste anything sensitive/embarrassing.

Quoting: BillNyeTheBlackGuyYawn, another hack and slash RPG. Call me when we get an action RPG with Dark Souls like gameplay. In the meantime, I'll keep playing traditional turn based RPGs.
Do we really have a lot of those though? I can't think of many besides Torchlight. There's Iesabel and Akaneiro too, but those are nowhere near as good from what I've heard. And if this one actually lets you use jumps to scale walls and plateaus, that adds a whole new strategic aspect to combat that would make it stand out from pretty much any action RPG, regardless of platform, that I can think of.

Looks a lot like Diablo 3 visually. At one point in the video the protagonist is wall-jumping up to the top of some ruins to get to a hidden chest. I wonder if that stuff is done automatically on certain trigger points or if the game actually has 3D platforming elements. I hope it's the latter, as that would be a great addition to the regular action RPG formula. There is a lot of "combat jumping" in the video too, but it's hard to tell if it's manual or part of certain attack animations.

Quoting: fleskThese games are easily some of the best point-and-clicks made the last decade. I've only played the first couple of chapters of this one so far, but I already love it. Can't wait to check out the rest.
That was actually my feeling about Primordia, it was similarly amazing. Guess I really need to get around to finishing the original Unwritten Tales, I think I left off upon entering the orc camp so I don't think there's too much left.
I love that one too, and I'm looking forward to the upcoming Linux version that will come with a slew of bug fixes and minor enhancements. It's been a long time coming though, as mentioned before. WEG likes to hit the right timing with their releases.

Reminds me slightly of SPATE. Will definitely check this one out once I've cleared some more games off my backlog.
