Quoting: muntdefemsEvery single issue of the crowdsourced era's final paragraph included a plea for volunteers, but nobody ever stepped forward.Really? I never noticed that before. I'm pretty up to date on point-and-click adventure and platformer campaigns and wouldn't mind helping out in one way or another.

Surprised to see this appear as a featured article but maybe it's because of the season?
I've had a chance to play the game a bit now and my first impression is that it's challenging but very good. It's not a free-form scareathon like those games I compared it to in the above article but rather a traditional puzzle game with a ghost theme.
I'm struggling to find a good comparison but it reminds me a bit of Micron [External Link] because of how you assign actions to tiles and the way the available actions are limited to only provide a single correct solution. The order in which you do things in Poltergeist matter more than in most levels of Micron though.
Overall it feels like a very solid puzzle game that I imagine I'll be spending several hours on when I have more time on my hands.

GOL World Tour: Linux Gaming From Canada

The first two Deathspank games that were Ron Gilbert's doing are also great and are inspired by his love for the Diablo series. The humor is top-notch and I loved the story and adventuring. The combat is a bit flawed though, but not so much that it detracted much from the experience for me.
Also, great article, Segata Sanshiro. Looking forward to the next instalment already.

Quoting: CheesenessI had no idea that Ron Gilbert worked on the Penny Arcade Adventures or that there were Linux ports of them. I played the first one while I was still using Windows and it's a casual mix of story focused adventure and turn-based RPG that I really enjoy and would love to see more of for Linux. As far as I know there aren't many of these kinds of games for Linux besides Costume Quest and Costume Quest 2.Quoting: Purple Library GuyI believe "Penny Arcade Adventures: On the Rain-Slick Precipice of Darkness" parts 1 and 2.IIRC, these games once had Linux ports, but they're no longer maintained and aren't easy to get.
Quoting: Purple Library GuyOh yeah, there was something called "The Baconing" which I believe was from those "Shank" guys. The Baconing was made by Hothead Studios (who also did those first two Penny Arcade Adventures episodes). It's the third game in a series, but none of them were ever released on Linux.
Incidentally, Ron Gilbert (Day of the Tentacle, Monkey Island, The Cave, Total Annihilation, Putt-Putt, Freddi Fish, Pajama Sam, etc.) worked at Hothead on the Penny Arcade Adventures and originally created Deathspank/Thongs of Virtue (the games that preceded The Baconing). Ron's pretty awesome. On the off chance anybody reading comments happens to be in Melbourne across the PAX Aus weekend, I'm going to be having a BBQ [External Link] with him on Nov 1st, which anybody is welcome to come to :D

I agree that Dog Mendonça & Pizza Boy looks great and I'm surprised it isn't funded yet. I've seen a several of the game developers I follow on Twitter encourage people to pledge as well, so hopefully it's only a matter of time.
I've been on the fence regarding Charles Dexter Ward since I'm a bit sceptical towards horror in adventure games. I like going at those at my own pace without an added element of stress but if it plays out anything like The Cat Lady or Serena I should be ok with it. Added my pledge now since it's struggling to reach funding.
Not so sure about the last one though since it looks like both the platforming and puzzle elements might be sacrificed in favor of pacing? Reminds me of Spate, which I did mostly enjoy, but more because of the atmosphere and visual style than because of those elements. Would have been nice to see a demo of it.
Also great to hear that all three are so Linux friendly. And thanks for another great article.

I get that he's frustrated but given recent events I really don't think that any sane person should be writing death treats on the internet. Regardless of their intentions.

Psychonauts is probably my all time favourite game so it's nice to see it finally getting a Linux version on GOG. I already own it both there, on Humble and on Steam though. Would have been nice to get a choice between the classic and modern versions though, but that's probably never going to happen.

Last week was a really good week for Linux releases. In addition to these and the 6 that were mentioned in articles, there was 5 additional games and 4 additional DLCs on Steam and 15 releases on GOG, of which 5 made their debut on Linux. Might have been some older games that got ported as well, but that's unfortunately a bit hard to keep track of. And who knows what might have turned up on Humble Widget and other retailers.
