Imagine having to pay upwards of $700 just to register an Epic Games Store account. That's what consoles are to me - gatekeeping games behind a hardware purchase and taking games away from PC.
I can only pray and hope that PC will still get great AAA games, and that PC game developers start listening to their actual customers, AKA gamers or "chuds", again.
Consoles are tightly locked-down computers, so IMHO, consoles are better for online competitive multiplayer titles, where anti-cheat is absolutely essential.

Good! Glad to see they're prioritizing their users, their reputation, and human creativity over money, and I believe that is of the utmost importance for a major Free/Open Source project like Blender.
If this turns out for the better, Mozilla ought to learn a lesson or two from this.

The Blender Foundation is getting absolutely roasted for accepting this "donation", and rightfully so!
As an open source project, their ultimate goal should be to have a good feedback loop between their users and the developers. It even says, in enormous letters, on the front page of the Blender website:
It's about people.
Accepting this donation, from a company that represents everything wrong with the tech industry over the past 8 years, betrays that goal of having goodwill between the users and developers.
It would be wise for them to return the money, and deny any future donations from them, or any other company whose primary product is an AI or LLM.

I hope that s&box and games built on that engine will work well under Steam Linux Runtime or Proton, but you never know... s&box itself currently has a Gold rating on ProtonDB [External Link], so that gives me hope.

Quoting: tmtvlProprietary games using GNU/Linux APIs are bad. For example, Egosoft's X3 uses a GTK2 application to launch and GTK2 is no longer being updated (it's even been removed from the official Arch repositories). Because it's proprietary software the community can't just take it over and update it to use GTK3 or 4.I think issues like that can be helped by targeting the Steam Linux Runtime instead of a specific Linux distribution. Steam Linux Runtime may not provide everything, but it is stable, so I think that makes it less likely to cause breakage as the stack of libraries advances.
Quoting: StellaPretty much all existing Linux games suffer from various problems ranging from complete inplayability over control and gameplay/visual issues as well as crashes.Even the open source Linux games and apps like SuperTuxKart, SuperTux, Veloren, or UZDoom? I would think that, since those games are open source, they would have better support for Linux, since they are open to bug reports and code contributions from anyone who cares.

How well does Steam Linux Runtime work for making Linux executables run across all the different distributions and Linux setups, I wonder?
I recently got GZDoom and Raze compiled to run with Steam Linux Runtime using the official distrobox image...

Ubuntu 25.04 upgrades halted due to Kubuntu users getting a broken desktop

The last time I tried upgrading my Kubuntu 22.04 to 24.04 using the official release upgrade tool, I was left without a Linux kernel. Then again, I have my root and home folders on separate partitions, and the root partition was rather small (200GB) and I had a lot of system packages installed, so it may have been a disk space issue... I really have no idea. I had to install Kubuntu 24.04 from the DVD, and I had to format my root partition in the process, but at least I didn't lose any of the stuff in my home folder!
